It's the same for me. It has never shown any info in the PCI section with any of the system definitions I've used.

Hi guys!

I would like to build a hackintosh based more or less on @pastrychef 's compontens. I would like to ask you for some input concerning if it all makes sense and is compatible each other. It is been 6 years now since I built my first hackintosh. Then, I replaced it with Macbook Pro and now I own Macbook Air 13” Early 2014 with 4 GB RAM. I do really miss the workstation where I could edit my videos and develope some RAW in Adobe software… you can imagine how MBA drives me crazy :). For this reason I would like to build my second hackintosh. The aim is to have my video/graphic work done smoothly. I’m not a gamer yet having a state-of-the-art workstation would be desired.

WLAN: Fenvi T919
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01M997EKF/?tag=tonymacx8603-21

Monitor: To be decided... most likely BenQ BL3201PT

Questions to be answered:
  • Is currently any problem with GTX 1070 since drivers have been released?
  • Will Noctua NH-D15S fit to that case? Maybe there’s enough space to install D15?
  • Maximus Gene VIII has only one PCIe 3.0 x4 is it then possible to install both PCIe based SSD and Fenvi Wireless/Bluetooth card? Anyhow Fenvi requires x1 slot, is there any other solution? Replacing Gene VIII for sth else?
I'm not a hackintosh expert... I'd like to follow sb else's installation process and make things work :)

Hi.

The GTX 1070 should work fine.

According to the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv specs, it only accepts CPU coolers 192mm or less. The NH-D15S is 160mm, so it will not fit.

The difference between the NH-D15 and NH-D15S is that the D15S has an asymmetrical design which will not block the first PCI-e slot on an mATX case and it also gives better clearance for RAM modules. In terms of cooling, I don't think there are any differences.

The Maximus VIII Gene has three PCI-e slots. You can use one for the GTX 1070, one for the Wifi/Bluetooth card and still have one free slot. The M.2 SSD does not use a PCI-e slot.

When considering M.2 SSDs for use with macOS, be aware that macOS does not have native support for standard NVMe M.2 SSDs. Using NVMe will require additional work to get them working. You can read about it here:
[Guide] HackrNVMeFamily co-existence with IONVMeFamily using class-code spoof | tonymacx86.com

macOS does have native support for AHCI M.2 SSDs. That means they are just plug and go. I personally use an AHCI version of the Samsung SM951.

AHCI is a tiny bit slower than NVMe, but in real world usage, most would probably never see the difference.

Thanks for the reply! I cross-checked it and you're right about the dimensions but it means that D15S should fit and it should be still some space left, isn't it? :)
In regard to the M.2 socket... I'm blind :) Gene VIII has special socket for it, I thought it has to be connected to PCIe x4.
Does then Fenvi T919 work in x4 socket? I came across some topic where people complained about it.

Yes, you are right. It will fit. I should not reply with no sleep. Lol

Yes, the Wifi/Bluetooth card will work in x4 slot.

Oh, it seems that my insomnia went viral lol. Thanks a lof for help I will try to get an AHCI SSD and buy all the rest and let's see... I will keep you guys posted.
I built the same system with the 960 PRO NVMe - works flawlessly.

But you had to spoof the class-code, didn't you? It's almost impossible to get a brand new SM951 AHCI in Europe. If I don't get it I will be thinking about Kingston HyperX Predator M.2 2280 480 GB but specs are lower. I'm not sure if I would like to spend hours trying to set everything up with NVMe and keep an eye on it everytime an update comes.
