Universal Audio Apollo Twin Thunderbolt on Hackintosh

Hi guys

Iam currently running a Dual Boot setup (El Capitan/Windows 10) on a Gigabyte GA-Z97X G1 WIFI BK and Intel CPU 4790k and Corsair Vengence 4X4GB DDR3 1600MHZ.

Will this GC-Thunderbolt 2 card http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5210#ov work on my system in EL Capitan for Apolle Duo or is there a workaround for it?

If not, then I will need some advice for the most rock solid/future proof and rapid build possible for music production using Apollo etc.

Thanks in advance

That Thunderbolt card from Gigabyte will only work with GA-X99 motherboards not Z97X versions.

are there any motherboards that have a thunderbolt port on the actual motherboard? preferably my something that will beat my i7 2.2 ghz, was thinking of a extreme processor or something.

I would love to build a mini or a micro atx build if possible!

I am not aware of a mini or micro atx motherboard that has thunderbolt. If you chose some of the z87 to z97 boards that have an onboard thunderbolt all should run fine.

When building a buddies machine about two years ago, we used a Z87 board ATX with onboard TB. I built myself a mATX machine last year and I could not find any with onboard TB. Pretty sure that hasnt changed. no one seems to doing onboard TB on mATX motherboards.. If you find one, let me know

I gave wrong Information so I deleted it - sorry!

HI there
How you connect the Apollo twin DUO to the mobo?
I'm thinking in a Z170X UD5 TH

And for the Z170X gaming 3 which has only an onboard Thunderbolt header should i use this card:

and connect it like this?

Hi !
I just got a new build based on the z87x ud7 th mobo, and it's been pretty easy to set up as the thunderbolt almost worked out of the box. I'm using the last el capitan os version.

The only issue I'm working on is that, on the first boot, the apollo twin is detected by the system manager in the thunderbolt section, but the universal audio tools cannot connect the appolo. I have to click on the "disconnect card" in the tunderbolt mac os toolbar (don't really how to name it), it freeze the OS, make it reboot, and then the apollo is well detected by universal audio tools.

did you get your issue resolved?
I am also running a z87x ud7 th (with 10.12 Sierra) on ProTools HDX and UAD PCIe,
Everything works great, but I have been thinking about ditching the PCIe card and getting a Thunderbold Octo...
thanks for any infos!!

Hi ! Sorry for being late, I lost my tonymacx log in :)
Nop sorry, even if the worked not that bad, I let my thunderbolt apolo go and switched to an apogee duet USB to avoid thunderbolt since it's not the most mature hackintosh friendly technology.
Hope you'll get your setup to rock :)

Honestly, the only people I see reporting they are having problems with TB audio interfaces are those with UA Apollo TB interfaces. Which leads me to believe there may be some unique issue when using Apollo on a CustoMac with TB. I know there are a few users who have Pro Tools HD|Native TB interface, as well as Apogee ThunderBridge (1st gen TB interface for Symphony I/O). All of them seem to be smooth sailing.

Again, you may need to tinker with the memory allocations in BIOS for your TB solutions. Also, consider setting your Clover boot time-out, and connect + power-on your TB audio interface once you get to the Clover screen. This also seems to work for some people as well.
