Is Hotswap only compatible when apple does it in the "real" mac ?

Unfortunately yes- that has been the case with Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 3 on hacks.

Are you sure about that? I see the UD5 has a TB header, but is not listed on the compatibility list for GC-ALPINE RIDGE.
This may not have been updated, motherboard manufacturers like a lot of manufacturers get their products out before documentation. Take a look at the Internal I/O Connectors, specifically #20

I just got the Z270X-Ultra Gaming with i7-7700k -- locks up at Apple logo. First Hackintosh since 10.6.8... I'm just a little bit lost right now. Also - is it possible currently to make it work with a GTX 1080, or no? TIA! :)

1080 is a NO for sure! :p

Try this: config.plist I have the same setup with you and it worked.

Surprised the Ultra Gaming doesn't have a DisplayPort, I guess knowing there'll be a beefy dGPU added..
USB's are ASMedia < one for RehabMan.

The UD5 is a super board and highly spec'd with the ability to run a secondary Thunderbolt add-in card.

I'm honestly surprised the USB-C port wasn't designated as available for use for DisplayPort's alternate mode (the DP standard allows for USB-C to carry its signal with up to two lanes of USB3 data simultaneously).

This may be something that they add to the BIOS if it is not already there. I know in my Asus BIOS I have different modes. I can run in USB 3.1 mode only. Or partly enable or fully enable Thunderbolt 3. Maybe @tonymacx86 could take a screen shot of the BIOS options for thunderbolt to clarify if these alternate modes are indeed available.

Dear hackers, is there any chance for GA-Z270X-UD5 + 7700k guide?

I'm doing careful consideration of this build (incl. NVMe SSD and TH3 to TH2 adapter).

I have already ordered this motherboard and chip and just waiting on my EVGA 980 Ti to arrive to make my build.

Hopefully, by the time it arrives, the guide will be written.
