Guff's Skylake ATX Build in a PowerMac G5:
GA-Z170x-UD3 - i7-6700k - GTX 980Ti

Components

The reason I went with most of the components here was the same reason many of you have in your head right now: Compatibility. The Z170+Skylake+Gigabyte combo is tried and tested by numerous people here on these forums, and after reading through the build threads, it was obvious that that's what I needed for a problem-free build. Lo and behold, the build was problem free! :D

My initial thoughts were to go X99 with a 6800k, as the majority of the work I do on this computer is video editing/content creation, so a 6-core would certainly be advantageous. However, after reading up a bit about it, there were a lot of people who attempted X99 builds with little (public) success, so I decided to stay away. The 6700k, however, is more than enough horsepower, so I'm happy I decided to take the easy way.

The only issue I'm facing is the fact that the 980Ti regularly sits at 83C at load, which no doubt means that there is some throttling, but this appears to just be a trait of the reference design, and not that the card has poor airflow. You'll see from the Unigine Heaven Scores later that this does have some effect on benchmark performance, but in my day to day usage, it's not an issue.

Installation Comments

I've always wanted to build a Hackintosh in a G5 case, so when the need arose for a better editing rig, I jumped at the opportunity. I don't have much in the way of a guide on the case mod, but it's fairly straightforward. Take everything out, put in an ATX motherboard tray, and then put all your new parts in.

The whole OSX install process was pretty much cookie cutter from the Install Guide: (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...ported-intel-based-pc.200564/#troubleshooting). I won't post a step by step here because that will be mostly redundant. Just follow this exact procedure and you're set.

I just had to make sure to install the alternate nVidia Drivers (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...for-macos-sierra-10-12-0-367-15-10-05.200843/) and the USB3 Plugins in MultiBeast.

Conclusion

Honestly, I was hugely surprised by how smooth and stable everything was. I'm not exactly a Pro when it comes to this kind of stuff, but there wasn't a single point where I was left lost or confused. Not a single kernel panic, not a single driver issue. Everything was buttery smooth. I actually had a tougher time installing windows (mostly due to some blunders on my part regarding partitioning) than I did with the Hackintosh. Huge thanks to all the contributors on this forum, you guys have made this process dead simple and deserve endless praise for it.

I'll post some more beauty shots when I get the chance to shoot photos. Thanks for reading!

Please open a thread in the Case Mods > PowerMac G5 sub Forum section for showing how your case mod was accomplished. The User Build forum section is for how you picked your components to achieve a successful macOS installtion. TIA.

Hmm, I don't exactly have a detailed post about how to do the case mod. I intended this mostly as a build guide for people to use similar components if building a Z170 setup. I'll flesh out the component choices and the install process in this thread when I get a chance.

Great! Thank you. I'm looking forward to your enhancing your OP...and a belated welcome to the tonymacx86 Forum.
