Guide: Using SATA hard drive as UniBeast install source (instead of a USB drive)

Hello all!

As this is my first post, please pardon me if I haven't posted in the correct place.

I currently have OS X 10.8.4 installed and booting from the hard drive with no boot flags necessary which is nice.

Specs:
Intel i3-3220 Ivy Bridge
GigaByte B75M-D3H Motherboard
Nvidia GeForce 6400GS 1GB GPU
8GB 1333mhz ram
64GB SATA3 SSD (main drive)
1TB SATA3 hard drive (for storage and Time Machine backups)
Microsoft USB keyboard and mouse



A few things to note, all I had to do to make booting from the hard drive function was installing the standalone Chimera bootloader and NVRAM kext to fix iMessage, and the Realtek Ethernet kext.

Updating software is done straight from software update with no kext reinstall issues.


So to get right to the guide:

Download retail OS X Mountain Lion app installer (which is already at 10.8.4)
Download UniBeast
Download MultiBeast

*Then, set up a second hard drive just like you would with a USB install, (1 partition, Mac OS X extended journaled, MBR type)

*Use UniBeast to setup your now formatted drive to become your installer

*Then, restart your computer, select your new UniBeast drive which will then boot the installer and install normally.

*Once installed, boot from your drive where Mountain Lion was installed using any necessary boot flags, and run MultiBeast after you update Mountain Lion.

I hope this hasn't been covered to death already, I was looking for a guide to do this however couldn't find one (I recently broke my USB drive) so I couldn't use that.

Anyway thanks for reading, using a hard drive as an install source makes booting the installer and subsequently installing so much quicker.

Thanks for this I was about to drop some money on a larger flash drive but hopefully this does the trick for me

can it be used as a recovery partition ( like if i mess my hackintosh i'd be able to reinstall it without creating unibeast usb)

Yeah you can from inside your running Mac system open Disk Utility
in there you select your 2nd drive with is a data you said
and go to restore tab and select its as the target
and the OS X dmg as the source and make sure ya can boot it by installing clover in the esp
