when I follow this it keeps prompting this message when I try to install (package manifest parsing error ) .... any help ?
I'm not sure how to fix that error but without the web drivers those CUDA drivers that you're trying to install don't do anything, granted you have a Pascal card.

Hello all, complete noob here. I have no idea what I'm doing at all when it comes to computers, but my friend does and I am getting him to build me another hackintosh (my current one is old and dying).

My current one has lots of problems (can't put the computer to sleep, certain videos and images won't work/load, etc) but it's useable. I want to build a rig that can dual boot (windows for gaming, osx for everything else). I was thinking of just using my current GPU for osx and getting a GTX 1070 for the gaming.

However I would ultimately like to use the 1070 for both. I read through a lot of this thread + others and I know we're waiting on drivers. My question is, should I buy the 1070 and hope Nvidia release drivers soon, or just settle for the 970? I realize the question+answer right above mine is asking the same thing, but the only added factor for me is timing. I don't know how much longer my current GPU is going to hold on for as new problems keep sprouting up all the time.

TL;DR do I get a 1070 for windows and use my current, shitty GPU until the drivers are available or do I just play it safe and get a 970?

A 980ti performs almost identitically to a 1070 and can be fully accelerated with web drivers

Although true, to be clear, the 980ti uses a lot more power. Also, those are still quite expensive ($650+ vs $400+.) It's sad, but 10 series is not supported but a better deal really.

What's the almost? Man what a mess this is, but hard to complain considering.

Oh that's not an almost on the 960. Got it. I wondered as I considered an older card for my 5.1 mac Pro (has a Sapphire 7950 in it now.) I plan to do deep learning and NVIDIA is the (almost) only game in town for that. For my hack I have the Gigabyte 1080 super something on it's way for Linux. I think reality is we won't see drivers.

In fact, seeing as the site has no mention of MacOS and it's nicely hidden I'm thinking it's really not going to happen in the near future. For me, that would mean giving up on MacOS for learning (unless Google gets AMD to really get their act together) or just find some way to get comfortable in Linux (I'm not really.)

Linux just feels like sleeping at a friend's house vs your own. You're not uncomfortable but it's not your home.

Sure, there are alternatives in Linux for just about anything but they are somewhat flaky or inconsistent, etc. So many different desktops and unnecessary competition in the Linux world

Fair point. 960 is better than nothing I believe. Most of the applications I use don't really work on Linux (or if they do I'm showing my lack of tech savvy, and would prefer to stay mac anyways).

Ironically there are open-source drivers for linux for the 10 series. They aren;t as good as the NVIDIA drivers but they exist. I would imagine being darwin is opensource it might be possible to get a driver working (probably only with X windows or similar.) But darwin never took off as a linux alternative.
