I've looked around the forum but it seems not many people get stuck so early on.

Hardware is from the guide.
Mobo: Asus Z97-A
CPU: i5 4690K (Haswell)
Crucial DDR3 32gb
500w PSU
No extra Graphics card

Set the UEFI BIOS as per legacy instructions except couldn't find any option for enabling HPET and setting to 64 bit but reading up I assumed it was default on.

Booted to Haswell iBoot
Ejected and put in retail Snow Leopard bought from Apple Store
Pressed f5
Slight difference here as guide shows the words "Mac OS X Install DVD" under the image of a disc on the iBoot screen and mine showed "Apple_HFS"
Pressed enter as per guide and got the following:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x55f81d): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/usr/local/src/xnu-1504.15.3/iolot/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1385
Debugger called: <panic>
Backtrace (CPU 0), Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack)
0x960d3da8 : 0x21b837 (0x5d7410 0x960d3ddc 0x223ce1 0x0)
(7 more lines similar to above with identical first code)

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Unknown

Mac OS version
Not yet set

Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 10.8.0: Thu Sxxxxx (unknown hidden by restart message) xxxxxxEAse_I386

System uptime in nanoseconds: 46940xxxxx(also hidden as above)

Restart message in various languages in middle of screen in a box saying:

"You need to reatart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the power button again."

Thanks for any help you can offer. If this isn't going to work at least I'll have a decent spec Windows PC to upgrade my old one to. I was hoping to get dual boot eventually as I want to do an iOS development course which obviously need OS X to run on.
That's ALL I want to use it for.
Thanks again

Is there any reason you want Snow Leopard instead of Sierra? Your Haswell System should be easy to get running on a more recent version of Mac OSX.
Im not familiar with Snow Leopard but you may need to set your bios settings to legacy boot mode. If you have the option to set your cpuid try 0x0306A0 its a very useful fake id thst works well when getting similar panics in other OSX versions.

If you have an Apple account you can get the Sierra download for free and there are several current guides using unibeast or clover that can get your system started easily. All you need is a working system which you have and a 8-16 gb usb stick.

Ok I seem to have misunderstood the basics. I thought I had to install SL first then download something more recent once I had an OS on the hard drive. Maybe my post isn't clear but I don't have a working system, the machine is currently completely new and the hard drive is as yet unused ( not even formatted).
Sierra is the ultimate goal so if you could point me to the appropriate guide that would be great.
Although I have an Apple ID don't have any access to a Mac currently.
Thanks
PS I do have a USB UEFI of El Capitan that I made up ages ago when I borrowed a friends MacBook but I can't install that to a 'blank' SSD can I?

Yes, you can if that is a UniBeast USB. At the first install screen, instead of clicking on the install button select Dsik Utility and format the drive, then exit DU and click on the install button.

Thanks Going Bald (as am I). Good of you to give me some of your time.
Unfortunately it seems somebody in my household (my wife of course) decided that the USB in question was available for use and reformatted it.
I guess I'll have to try to find somebody with a Mac they will loan me and create a bootable Sierra USB or try again to fix the issue above using my retail Snow Leopard.

I thought the same thing when I started in May, it took a lot of reading to get to the point of realizing El Capitan was the way to go. I borrowed a Mac for about an hour and had to go back to it a few times to get it all situated. Unibeast for El Capitan is almost automatic on your setup, hopefully you still have the account and can access it. It would be good to start with El Capitan and then move to Sierra because there are a lot of support threads for El Capitan and Unibeast for Sierra has some folks perplexed. I have reverted back to using clover for install of Sierra because I can't get a system folder when using the Unibeast mtheod for some reason. I've tried dumping my download and reinstalling but always get half a system with Unibeast but I've never had a problem with El Capitan Unibeast installs.
