Mac OS X Wallpaper and Intro Videos

Cheeta was quite a revolution at the time and was really the start of having pleasant to look at and use graphical user interface operating systems running on computers in the office/home environment. In comparison to Microsoft, Apple were offering something completely fresh on the desktop. They moved away from the beige boxes by releasing the new G3, which was actually the second generation G3. The tech specs were marginally down but they looked gorgeous.

Jealous PC users pointed out that they enjoyed faster CPUs while Mac users retorted with we have the same performance with more efficient processors. The truth was even at the time the IBM/Motorola PowerPC chips were as fast as their PC counterparts, but the rated speed was about a third less.

Apple created something that we take for granted now - it is constantly updated and upgraded but in many ways for many users the Mac operating system and the style of the hardware is what defines a Mac. It is a brand that is easily identified and has proven to be very appealing to the general public. Long may it continue.

For some reason I like Panther's wallpaper the best

I always liked the intro videos. They gave me a feeling sort of like unboxing a new piece of hardware. They said "Welcome to your shiny new Mac," even if it was just an upgrade to a really old machine. Of course I also liked the music videos they once included for Quicktime demos in the MacOS 7/8/9 days (Barenaked Ladies, Dwight Yoakum, etc.). Does anyone else remember those, or am I really that old?

Really miss these intros. Panther and Tiger are the best Wallpaper for me.

Thank you for the old wallpaper.
I was missing them so much!
