I got the DisplayPort to DVI-I adapter and it appears to work. The monitor is correctly identified and it wakes up when the machine wakes from sleep. It also sleeps and wakes normally for plain display sleep. However, it still thinks there is a built-in display of the same type, so it wants to do an extended desktop with only one monitor connected. I'm guessing it is caused by the fact that it was using an iMac profile when installed but I later switched it to use a Mac mini profile.

Does yours show only a single monitor connected when using the HD4000?

I currently have my GT 630 video card back in the computer but I don't think I saw multi monitors when it was on the HD 4000. I did click in to the display preferences to change resolution. I will try and pull the GT 630 and double check for you again.

Update:

Okay. I tested and I have the same result as you. When using the HD 4000, it see two monitors even though I only have one connected.

I'm going to reinstall to clean it up but this time I'll use the Macmini6,2 definition instead of the iMac13,1 that I am using now. If it still shows two monitors I'll just set it to mirror like I have currently since it seems to work just fine.

Mine defaulted to mirroring.

Did a reinstall but same thing. It defaulted to extended displays again but after switching to mirroring it works fine.

UPDATE: Did another reinstall but this time ran the new MultiBeast and it corrected the issue. No more mysterious built-in display.

The GT 630 is working fine. No problems updating to Sierra at all. It was easier than upgrading my Skylake system.

I was able to get the HDMIaudio kext working. Only issue is that I have two displays connected - one via HDMI and one via DisplayPort - and only the one connected via DisplayPort shows up under sound preferences.

Anyone know how to get the monitor connected via HDMI to show up, as well?

Not a big deal if I can't get it to work. Just curious. Thanks!

Sorry. I don't have two monitors to test...

Not really a big deal. I don't need to power 2 sets of speakers ;) So just having audio through one monitor is working great. Strange thing is that I can't get the HDMI/DP audio to work by copying the kext to the Clover EFI partition as people have done in other threads. Not sure why. I just installed it to /S/L/E as mentioned here, and it works great.

I might try to get audio working through VoodooHDA eventually as well, so I can plug in a mic and use Siri in Sierra (when I decide to install it). Or would just getting a USB mic be the easier, safer route?

I still haven't tried VoodooHDA yet so I don't know what it actually installs. I imagine that it's just a few kext files...

In my opinion, USB audio is always "safe" since you don't need to install any additional drivers if you use a compatible one. Nothing beats it in terms of ease of use.
