I have a system image of a freshly configured install of Yosemite that I created on my MacBook Pro. I would prefer not to install from scratch again. Instead of running a patched installer, is it possible to modify the system image to add the necessary drivers / kexts and configure the bootloader to use that partition?

I know of no way to do what you're asking without a heck of lot work on your part. I recommend that you use UniBeast and MultiBeast as you will be accomplishing the same procedures as these two programs do for you.

During the 2nd part of the installation process, you can use Migration Assistant to bring your MBP's apps, user account(s) and data files to your hackintosh. (Tip: uncheck Other Files and Folders.) Make sure your MBP and hack are on the same local network.

I'm assuming that your MBP didn't originally come with Yosemite, and you upgraded to Yosemite. If the MBP came with Yosemite installed, you may not see Yosemite in the MAS' Purchases section. In that case, you'll have to download the Sierra installer. However, all is not lost as you can still use Migration Assistant to still get your "stuff" from the MBP, but you'll have to update your apps which is minor pain.

Here's the procedures you'll need to do.

:ch: On your MBP, download Yosemite from the MAS, Purchase tag. (You may have to hold down the Option keyboard key.) If it's not there, then your only legal option is to download the Sierra installer. (Sierra is clean up and has enhancements over El Capitan.) When the download is completed, the Installation app will open - just Quit it.

:ch: On your MBP, download UniBeast and MultiBeast for Yosemite (or Sierra if you can only use it). Run UniBeast to create the USB installer thumb drive. Copy MultiBeast to your thumb drive.

:ch: Using the appropriate tonymac86 installation guide, install Yosemite or Sierra. On the second reboot, the installer will ask you if you want to use Migration Assistant. Select the appropriate option to bring over you MBP "stuff". (Tip: uncheck Other Files and Folders.) Make sure your MBP and hack are on the same local network. (See the Apple reference at the end of this post for more information on Migration Assistant.)

:ch: Run MultiBeast. Since you didn't list your hack's components (motherboard, cpu, graphics card), I can't help you with your selection of MultiBeast's options. (Please update your Profile System information per the tonymacx86 Forum's Rules - see my info under my avatar.)

You may have to install the Nvidia web drivers after running MultiBeast (don't reboot yet) if you have a Nvidia Maxwell chipset graphics card. Then, reboot and set your BIOS to boot from your installation disk.

Lastly, you might want to look for user guides for your motherboard, CPU and graphics card before start.

Good Luck
