I'm wanting to upgrade my current PC so I can turn it into a Hackintosh whilst using the old parts and making a Master (hackintosh) and Slave (pc) setup to use my music DAW setup. I'm also trying to get the lowest pricing because I'm on a budget but I want to make sure I'm actually upgrading performance and I won't run into major problems doing the hackintosh.

What I want is to be able to use Sierra, iMessage + Facetime, x3 monitor support since that's what I have now, and overall a smooth and better performance then my old pc. From what I gathered from the "Buyer's Guide" this is what I've chosen:

BUYING
--------

Total = $596.98

Motherboard - $134.99
Gigabyte LGA 1151 Z170 2-Way SLI UEFI DualBIOS ATX DDR4 ATX DDR4 NA Motherboards GA-Z170XP-SLI
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012AQGL4A/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

CPU - $329.00
Intel Core i7 6700K 4.00 GHz Unlocked Quad Core Skylake Desktop Processor, Socket LGA 1151 [BX80662I76700K]
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012M8LXQW/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

RAM 32gbs (16x2) - $132.99
Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin - BLS2K16G4D240FSE (Red)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EIJFQCK/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

These are my old parts of my PC:

OLD PARTS
---------

Cooler - CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CW-9060007-WW) High Performance Water / Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm

Old Ram - CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ32GX3M4X1600C10

SDD - Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SV300S37A/120G

Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti DirectX 11 02G-P4-3660-KR 2GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video ...

Motherboard - ASUS m5A97 R2.0

CPU - AMD FX - 8350

So my plan is to upgrade the RAM since I'll need DDR4, upgrade the MB/CPU combo so it's Hackintosh elligibal but is this combo going to be a huge performance from my old pc? I also plan to re-use my old vid card the GeForce GTX 660 ti, is this card going to work for my hackintosh and Sierra?

Any help would be so greatly appreicated... I'm familiar with installing a hackintosh as I tried in the past with my AMD - FX but as you know AMD is a huge headache and I need to move to intel. An important factor is though I must have imessage and Facetime working because thats like the only reason I really want to move to OSX from Windows is so that feature will work and I can get a nice sync with my iphone lol.

P.S. does a brand of a PSU matter? I don't know what my PSU is but I believe its like 600 watts because it powers my current PC just find. I'm not sure what is cause I didn't look at it yet without opening the pc which is a hassel the way I have it set up atm.

Thanks guys! <3

You should get a significant performance boost with a Skylake system. Here's the CPU mark results:

The 4 core 6700K comes in at over 2000 points higher. Even the 4.5 year old 4 core I7-3770 beats the FX-8350. Don't know if the 660 Ti will work with Sierra but you can always try it and see. If not the HD530 can get you by for a time. I would buy a new Haswell certified PSU for the new build. Get at least 80+ gold rated and all Japanese capacitors. Seasonic is one of the better choices. Also check out the new Corsair RM "X" models. See which offers you the best deal. 650W should be plenty.

Thank you so much for helping me out. I'm glad to hear that its a fantastic upgrade. I hope the OSX installation part doesn't give me any headaches lol

For the PSU. I managed to find out what PSU I have right now. It's a Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply.

Now I know its not what you recommended me but what I'm asking if my old PSU will run the new MB/CPU/RAM until I can get the new PSU. Or do you think I shouldn't even try it risk of it failing or blowing up lol?

*UPDATE*

So I had the hugest trouble getting this to work. For some reason none of the USB ports would power on so I could enter bios. Eventually I plugged it into the 3.1 USB port and got it to work... but the problem was I couldn't boot from USB because only power to one USB at boot up was working... so choose either keyboard or usb boot? Luckily I had a extra USB port dongle that I plugged into the 3.1 USB and thus could power up both the keyboard and usb boot to install Mac OS Sierra.

I'm actually typing from the boot everything seems good. I'm having trouble with iMessage syncing as everytime on my iPhone I do the "Text Message Forwarding" to receive the code on my Mac... I end up seeing no code... I read somewhere that sometimes give it a few days and let apple servers grant me full access... Hopefully that'll work. iCloud and FaceTime I'm both logged into, I haven't tried calling anyone on FaceTime yet but I am logged in and my past phone vids history does show up. I just wish iMessage would work lol.

I do need a little help if anyone knows about Clover Configurator. So I followed the Mac OS Sierra intel install guide to a tee. And I saved my config.plist with the boot options necessary I believe... (obviously I used it to get iMessage/Facetime working) however the problem is I can't boot up from the HDD with Clover... For some reason halfway through the boot the monitors just go off... It makes me think its a graphic thing but I'm not confident...

Now if I boot from the USB I made to install OS X I can boot up no problem.

The only boot flags I think I have to use are , "dart=0" and "nada_drv=1" for my Nvidia Web Driver.

If anyone has any idea how to help me, I'd like to not rely on booting from the USB all the time lol.

P.S.

If anyone has any questions of my rig and how I got it to boot I'll tell you everything I did... I literally spent +20 hours working on this thing because install was actually terrible for me. I think its just because I have bad luck or partially and idiot lol. But I kept notes so I wouldn't forget. <3

boot flag nvda_drv=1 is not working with Sierra. There is a new way to enable web driver (search this site for instructions).
Also please note that you settings in config.plist are probably different on usb and hd. That's why you can boot with usb but not directly from hd.

Please list all your relevant hardware in your profile and start a new thread in Sierra Desktop Support. This is no longer related to buying advice. Thanks in advance !
