[SOLVED]Nvidia GT 740 SC 4GB - Not compatible?

I had set the machine type to 12,2 (iMac)

I think that the problem may be that iMac12,2 system definition.

I have a GT 740 in my ThinkServer running macOS Sierra, it's not the 4GB version but it is GK107.
I am not using the web drivers and not injecting Nvidia in config.plist.

My system definition is MacPro5,1 although I ran it for a while as an iMac14,2 and the GT 740 worked ok too.

I think that there are 3 distinct different hardware builds of the GT 740. @Going Bald listed them some time ago with a short summary of what Clover settings/drivers each one needed. I didn't take a note of these at the time though. Perhaps 14,2 may work better - there seems to be a lot of trial and error at this early stage with macOS Sierra.

Hi, thanks. I can try MacPro5,1 and see what happens.

I am running it as 14,2 :) However, I'm currently not attempting Sierra, but using El Capitan. Since I've had great success with getting everything working (except the vid card (again, worked properly with Intel 530), I figured why change. Also, I started building this right before Sierra released. In the first 2 days, I had it all up and running. It wasn't till I ordered the vid card that put the brakes on everything.

If you use MacPro5,1 or any other system definition of a Mac that uses ECC RAM then delete AppleTyMCEDriver.kext or you will experience a KP on boot.

Ok, because I'm still having to use the nv_disable-1 arg to boot, basically, nothing sees the vram. dcpi says displays the exact vid card name, but shows ".display_boot" for the frame buffer and Ports=2. Looking through the tabs of dcpi, I see nothing reporting ram. System Info shows the card, but 0 for vram. I exctracted this from the dcpi log:
48:493 0:235 ERROR: Unable to locate nVidia Video BIOS
48:493 0:000 there are no ROM loaded and no VBIOS read from hardware
48:493 0:000 nVidia EVGA GeForce GT 740 -92274688MB NVE7 [10DE:0FC8] :: PciRoot(0x0)\Pci(0x1,0x0)\Pci(0x0,0x0) => device #1
obviously, the vram is incorrect.

For some reason, no matter what I set the mac type to, Sysetm Report shows it at 17,1

I have resolved the issue!
I found that the hard drive I was using had 2 partitions withMacOS on it. One was from months ago when I was experimenting and that partition was where the config.plist was residing. I have no idea why that didn't show up on Clover, but after I saw that, I erased that partition and then re-ran MultiBeast and then the mac type stayed at 14,2 as I set it. Then after I rebooted, I no longer had to use nv_disable=1 and now the system is reading the 740 sc with the full 4GB vram! No more vid tearing (lines) and the display is snappy. Just for the record, it also works on the VGA monitor.

Thanks again everyone for all the assistance!
