When i attempt to update to sierra from El Capitan through the 'Install MacOS Sierra' app, i get to the disk selection part and when i select my hackintosh partition, it tells me that 'this disk cannot be used to start up your computer'.

The simple solution is to backup and repartition your disk, OSX/macOS/poopysoftware does not like your partition table. I had the same problem. You might also fix it by editing your partition table with various tools. You need 128mb free space between partitions and the proper EFI partition size.

Try changing your smbios in config.plist to something newer than macpro4.1.
Worked for me.

I managed to start installation that way, though I'm getting constant freezing on reeboots.
