Hi All,

Firstly I'm new to the Hackintosh scene so forgive me for any obvious errors. I have some hardware that I'm trying to install SL to for proof of concept before I purchase some upto date hardware. So for I've managed to install SL and update it to 10.6.8 using iBoot/Multibeast but I cannot get the system to boot from the hard drive, it always hangs on a white/grey screen with the apple logo or if booted with -v I get a black screen no display.

My Hardware is:
Motherboard: GA-H61M-DS2
CPU: i3-3240
GFX: Intel 2500 on CPU
HDD: Generic Seagate ST3250310AS 250gb

Should the above hardware work with Snow Leopard?

I've tried various different post install options with Multibeast but I just can't seem to get to system to boot from the HDD. IS there anything extra I can provide here to help someone point me in the right direction of a fix?

Thanks in advance.

This is your problem. There is no support in the SL kernel for Intel 2500. iBoot has been modified to allow you to install, but you really do not want to have to use iBoot CD as your boot loader.
You have 2 options - purchase a discrete GPU that is supported by the OS or purchase a CPU with Intel 3000 / 4000 graphics

Thanks for the speedy response, I'll see what I have kicking around in the GFX grave yard. I know I have some ATI Radeon HD 5450 and 6450 cards, maybe I'll give those a try?

Thanks for the pointer GB :).

I've made some progress although not perfect. I found an old nVidia 210 1gb Silent kicking around and with a bit of effort I now have full GFX with the help of NVEnabler64.kext and the boot option GraphicsEnabler=Yes.

Now, whilst this works using iBoot it still will not boot from the HDD. Do you think it would be possible to get this booting from the HDD or is it still a case of an unsupported GFX?

I'll explain a little more my reasoning for pursuing this older OSX setup....

Firstly I'm trying to make use of H/W that I have to hand without purchasing specific H/W.
Secondly I have some older software such as CS3 and CS4 for which I'm unsure will work on newer OSX revisions.

I'm just trying to create a stable setup with what I have before I go off spending my hard earned cash on shiny new H/W plus I'm learning lots on the way :). If you think I'm trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear then please do tell me. From what I've experienced so far I've now doubt that I could get a shiny new box working well it's just a case of how much money do I want to spend.

Really appreciate the time you've taken so far helping me with my issues.

Your Sandy Bridge hardware is perfectly capable of running 10.6.8. Steps to take:
1 Install 10.6.3 from the retail DVD using iBoot method. - You did this already.
2 Download 10.6.7 Update (combo) from Apple support and install it, (still booting with iBoot)
3 Download and install http://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/updatehelper.37/
4 Download 10.6.8 Udpate (combo) from Apple support and install it (still booting with iBoot)
5 Run MultiBeast Snow Leopard and select DSDT Free + your audio and networking kexts from the pick lists in MultiBeast and install. Repair permissions and rebuild caches, eject iBoot (you are through with it) and reboot.

You should now have a functional PC-Mac - note that sleep/wake and speed stepping will not be working since NullCPUPM is installed. You might want to think about extracting and editing a DSDT for your board to get 100% function, but you can do that at your leisure once you are up and running.

Hi again GB. Once again thank you for your excellent work and speedy responses. One question though, you mention above Sandy Bridge hardware but I was under the impression my hardware was Ivy Bridge. I say this after looking at the report using CPU-z on another identical system!

Am I being an idiot?

6 series board is Sandy, 7 series board is Ivy
3xxx series CPU is Ivy
Not really a good idea to mix, but the 6 series PCH will support Ivy CPUs with a BIOS upgrade from the original issue.

Hi Again,

So over the last few days I've battled with various installations of SL/MTN/ELCAP. The only system I've managed to get running with boot from the HDD is using ELCAP. My reasoning for trying to install older OSX versions is as I mentioned earlier some legacy software I have which I need to find the newest OSX version which they will run on. I know that the software I have works on Lion as I have an old iMac from late 2006. I want to build a Hack which is capable of running from the HDD and running my legacy software but I'm reluctant to fork out for H/W until I've tested for a few weeks.

My ideal scenario would be to get a solid system running MTN/MAV or YOS or which ever is the newest which will still run my software. I'm limited to Motherboard (GA-H61M-DS2) and CPU (i3-3240) combinations but I do have a few old GFX cards kicking about.

I have:
nVidia 210 1gb Silent
nVidia 7300gs
ATI HD6450
ATI HD5450

Should I be able to install MTN/MAV or YOS with any of the above GFX on my M/B and CPU combination and successfully get it to boot from the HDD or will I just have to bight the bullet and buy some alternative hardware? I do not need to run the latest OSX nor does the system need to be super powerful just capable of running CS3/QXP 9.5 etc?

Thanks again in advance. I will not be defeated :)

7300gs lost support in 10.6.4 so that one is out of the running.
Either of the ATI cards would probably work with the proper frame buffer.

The GT210 should be OOB and is probably your best bet to run on all versions of OS X (except maybe Sierra - have not heard yea or nay on that one yet)

Install Clover Legacy mode on your Sandy Bridge hardware and you should be able to boot from the HDD.
