To cut a long story short, my first pc was a hackintosh. To complete the look of a mac i bought a used ACD which came with a 2002 G4 quicksilver for free. The case did nothing and sat about for a few years until i came across a cheap motherboard on gumtree and decided to try fit it into my g4.

I have never did anything like this before, never used a dremmel or a power drill or any form of pc case modding, but thought I would make it up as I went and so didnt plan anything. The whole project took me about a week from start to finish, rushed in many places but I learned a lot. I used a Laser Hive kit and although it was intimidating at first, as i tackled each step it was pretty straight forward. Unfortunately I didn't take many photos of the process.

The finished build.

Started by cutting a front fan hole, as the case is very limited for airflow.

My uneducated attempts at cutting. the middle area is where i want to mount my 2 ssds, one on top of each other, and thats why i left that section.

test fitting my fan, not the best job but my first ever time cutting a fan hole with a dremel, and the g4 steel is pretty tough!

Front panel cut, not the tidiest of jobs but not as bad as i thought it would turn out.

Front panel with the aluminium mesh and a silver switch, which i later changed for a black one when i decided to paint the case. Initially i was going to leave it all stock.

Case painted matt black.

Painting the side panels and handles a graphite grey.

Starting to fit everything into the case. The paint job is rushed and I ran out of black paint.
But needed to get it done for starting university, so only budgeted a week to do it all.

Everything installed. Its a tight fit.

and finally with my rgb leds installed.
Need to order a set of braided cables so i can sort the horrific cable management,
but even since this photo ive done a much better job of cable tying everything down and between the fans. Still have to sort out my front io, as i have a 3.5 inch akasa front io i want to incoorporate into the optical slot but not sure how to mount it.

There is a lot of space for cables between the steel sides and the plastic on G4s so keep that in mind for your cable management.

Yeh i remember stumbling across a build the other day where the cables were routed out the case behind the plastic panel. Only problem I would have is I would have to find somewhere to cut a hole for the cables to exit, and most of my case has aluminium mesh I've epoxied on. I think that will be a definite for my next G4 mod. Think my best bet is to get some cable extensions or longer cables and route everything between the fans at the front and back and between the bottom two fans. With black cables that are long enough i reckon it could look stealthy enough.

Although I've just started a G5 mod, just waiting on my Laserhive kit to be sent out so probably won't start another G4 for a good while once I'm done with this. Thanks for the suggestion though!
