Thanks for the help, but I still couldn't get to the installer. That freaking kernel panic has me going into conniptions. I tried the different boot flags, I tried booting in safe mode, I tried recreating the unibeast boot stick, nothing. I think I'm gonna try to post to the forum at large...

Hey Kuau, Did you ever resolve this issue? I have the same hardware, except for the GeForce GTX 760 rather than the 640 and I keep running into a kernel panic at the same spot. I tried uploading Snow Leopard and upgrading from there, then I tried the recommended unibeast install. Same issue...
