Took one of my old Lenovo Z50-70 laptops, dusted it off and gave this (re)install a shot @macap. Was running High Sierra, but figured it was time to give this a try so it's not a wasted system, BUT...
Ran into an odd issue where it perpetually gives IOUSBHostDevice messages and refuses to boot...
Thanks @trs96 @Stork: I managed to use a previous build + the OpenCore diff tool to get the config.plist up to date. I also updated the kexts as per Dortania's lists.
The only kext that seems to not have any updates since maybe a year or more is `Legacy_USB3.kext` so I left that the same.
The...
Anyone have Z50-70 OpenCore instructions / kext / driver list worked up yet? Any example stock config.plists on GitHub yet? Would be nice to see a solid EFI GitHub release made with config info. Been running OpenCore on other systems with tremendous success and overall quality of life...
Just a quick story: I bought 4 Yeston RX550 4GB cards. 2 of the cards were proper Polaris while the other 2 appeared to be something else (I assume Lexa) with lower memory speeds. macOS worked fine with the proper Polaris cards while the others would not function with macOS. It's a big gamble to...
This is true. It goes so far as to make my 2009 and 2010 Mac Pros work FANTASTICALLY with Catalina and so much better than the other options. My experience so far with OpenCore config is that it's much more robust and the process feels more stable than Clover.
At this point do you all think that perhaps changing to OpenCore might simplify the entire situation? And if so, are there some instructions for such a migration? I kinda like to review all the steps and get an eagle's eye overview before jumping into such things with both feet if an OpenCore...
I'm afraid that the confusion is not WhateverGreen, but rather the fact that this is an iMac13,2 and the tutorial mentions that an iMac13,2 does not have a native AMD (see: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/macos-native-discrete-gpu-power-management.247479/):
Hmm, I don't recall having defined the properties anywhere per se for this card. I thought it was essentially native and don't believe I put any properties anywhere, nor recall seeing anything that indicates to do so.
I know there's no SSDT definition (I generated a new SSDT as per above, but...
I continued to have hangs / white screens of death as per this:
But it turns out that the instructions in the "macos-native-discrete-gpu-power-management" thread from here has helped (although my AMD RX 580 is showing up in the ioregistry as Nvidia):
@Maxlpulpo @LisaAlterEgo so I have some good news and bad news:
First: changing to iMac13,2 did resolve the hang at boot and allows SSDT.aml to load. I went ahead and added `-w 2` for good measure for this i7-3770 processor since it seems others have added that in the past.
Unfortunately the...
@LisaAlterEgo could you please give the specific key examples for this as I'm not seeing them enumerated anywhere else specifically. I'd like to see these either in a text editor or in Clover Configurator (probably raw plist text XML would be better).
Ugh - well I replied too soon. Getting the same hung results with the new SSDT.aml. According to the instructions it seems as though the MacMini6,1 should work, but maybe I do need to change to iMac13,2 instead. What a bummer, will have to rework serial and all then.
This is very cool, aside from the shared EFI (THANK YOU!) could you make a rough bullet point of the steps or what is different from the original guide to do a new install and/or migration? It sounds like OpenCore is really reducing the quirk level and I'm really looking forward to that right...
Oh wow, what a little gem of a post that needs integration into the main guide! Here's the link to that: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-hp-elite-8300-6300-pro-all-form-factors-using-clover-uefi-hotpatch.279627/post-2058672
