    iOS 6 is now out

Article: iOS 6 is now out I've been following the iOS 6 threads on the wifi bug over on the Apple forums, and monitoring the operation of my own 3GS since upgrading, and can say definitively that iOS 6 on AT&T on my system is randomly dropping the wifi and pulling/pushing data through the 3G...

    iOS 6 is now out

Took the plunge and upgraded my 3GS. seems a bit more sluggish in response, but otherwise all seems to be working well.

Apple said to have canned entry-level iMac

I wonder if this might lead to an upgrade of the mac mini instead? I was a bit surprised that the mini hasn't been on any roadmap for this year.

    iOS 6 is now out

Would like to hear from anyone who has upgraded to iOS 6 on a 3GS. I half anticipate a fiasco on the low end, and don't want to bring my phone to its knees like what happened to the 3G in previous updates.

Apple updates its range of iPods

Article: Apple updates its range of iPods Really? I like this one way better than the 6th generation, which was the worst by far in the nano line-up. They still seemed to peak with 5th generation IMO, but at least the latest one is getting back to some additional useful physical controls.

The iPhone 5 has arrived, leaks proven to be mostly true

M'eh Wish I could be more excited about this, but since we had virtually seen the iPhone 5 constructed and dissected before it was even announced the actual event was like watching a rehash of all the rumors. Might upgrade this time from my 3GS, but even that isn't overly compelling.

iPhone 5 expected to launch on the 12th

It may be that the "5" in the shadow is there to imply the type of upgrade that people expect in a next generation, but that it will have nothing to do with the name. I've got to admit to being a bit amused by how much this issue seems to rile some people up - it is just a name :)

    Hackintosh & 46inch HDTV ?

Hard drives are fine, dvd can't tell (Sony Optiarc works, others maybe), not sure about the wireless. Case and power supply should be fine if you plan on only using the HD4000 graphics, but for a more powerful graphics card you will need to check your power needs. If you look at the CustoMac...

To SSD or not to SSD?

Sounds like TRIM isn't enabled - otherwise there is a slow down, but cutting the performance is half is quite the exaggeration. As for their general utility, I definitely like them for revitalizing older laptops - general speedup plus the significant boost in swapfile speed for systems that...

    Pinkintosh Build Advice???

I would suggest you start by looking at the CustoMac builds that are the most straight forward systems to get up and running, and look for the motherboards that contain the features that you are interested in using (thunderbolt, etc). That should give you a good place to spec out appropriate...

Exclusive: Hands on with Gigabyte’s upcoming mini-ITX motherboards

Article: Exclusive: Hands on with Gigabyte’s upcoming mini-ITX motherboards There should be no problem using this board to build a hack with an ssd. What it doesn't have is an mSata slot for a caching ssd, but since that isn't supported by OS X it isn't really relevant anyway.

    Face Off: Microcenter vs Newegg

Wow, I didn't realize that CompUSA still existed - haven't seen a brick-and-mortar one of their stores in years.

    [ASK] HFS+ vs NTFS performance

Negligible compared to the difference in using HDD vs. SSD. Not trying to be snarky - without knowing a specific type of application, the general answer is that these are both well optimized filesystem structures with decent automated underlying disk optimization tools built into their...
