So here is what happened. I wanted to upgrade to el capitan and clover, so I made a boot drive, backed up on an external time machine my chimera yosemite and started clean. In the fresh install the only problem I encountered was another boot loop, which was fixed by installing the correct nvidia...
Also having the same problem, but with the gt 640.
Update:
Got in with nv_disable=1 so I could install the drivers. It was difficult because the screen was so glitchy I guess because it was confused on the drivers maybe. But the good news is that it worked!:thumbup:
Sorry if this is in the wrong category I wasn't quite sure where to post it. So, my Hackintosh has been totally stable for the past 3 of 4 weeks after i built it. However I recently was prompted to allow steam access to my computer so that it could self update. I gave it access and then another...
I can't find the file in finder needed to flag the driver. Does anyone know why it might not be there? I looked for the "extras" folder but couldn't find it. Am I not understanding how to navigate to it?:| Help is appreciated.:D

Thanks, I will read those threads. Is it possible that running off of one 8 gb stick of ram rather 2x4gb sticks could be an issue? Also, I have the latest version of bios, f7, because I had to update it for compatibility with my i3, which is a haswell e series is only compatible with f6 and above.

Thanks so much for the help! I will try downloading and installing the drivers and see if that helps make it more stable. Am I correct in assuming that any issue where the computer is freezing means it's a graphics issue?
I don't think so, I didn't know nvidia made drivers for Mac, could you include a link to the drivers? I'm using which ever drivers are used by default, I haven't downloaded any new ones, thanks for the help.
