<< Solved >> BIOS borked by attempted Catalina upgrade - what next?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I used method 2 and the problem was quickly and easily fixed. I now have a stable system again, so problem solved.

<< Solved >> BIOS borked by attempted Catalina upgrade - what next?

The more I try to fix this the worse it gets: I now have to unplug the computer, remove the battery, disconnect the graphics card and wait about ten minutes in order to get back into BIOS, do a complete reset - and I have to do this for every reboot. Also, three hard drives with previously...

Can Multibeast create bootable EFI on external drive?

Hi, I'm having multiple system issues, including BIOS problems and boot failures, which have their own threads open elsewhere. This, however, is a specific question: I'm creating another clone of my main drive as a precaution, and want to make it bootable if possible. I'm unsure of the...

<< Solved >> BIOS borked by attempted Catalina upgrade - what next?

I've tried changing the battery but now I can't get past the Gigabyte welcome screen - no way to enter BIOS.

<< Solved >> BIOS borked by attempted Catalina upgrade - what next?

After a series of disasters with a Catalina upgrade, I'm now nearly back to a stable system with Mojave again. But every time I shut down my computer, on restart it won't boot past the 'Gigabyte' flash screen. I can't boot into BIOS and holding down the 'del' or 'F12' keys does nothing. The only...

    Create EFI partition

That does help, a lot. Thank you for such a clear and comprehensive answer.

    Create EFI partition

Can anyone tell me how to do something as basic as creating an EFI partition on an SSD which currently does not have one. (I want to make the SSD my system drive, but cannot create a USB installer that works - I've tried over and over and they are bootable but when I try to install the OS I...

Clover upgrade killed my system - advice please

Update: I reset the NVRAM - no idea what that means or what it does but it has allowed me to now boot into the Mojave clones and installers. All of this happened after successfully wiping the borked 1TB drive, installing Catalina, and resotoring my data from a time machine backup. On restart...

Clover upgrade killed my system - advice please

I now have a system which will not book into anything. I have two clones of my Mojave installation, three Mojave USB installers and a Catalina Mojave installer and none of them will boot. I've reset BIOS and made the necessary tweaks (though might have missed something, I suppose, but no idea...

Clover upgrade killed my system - advice please

No, because the partitions on the affected drive were not visible to the USB installer, and did not show up in disk utility.

Clover upgrade killed my system - advice please

I do have a working USB installer, but I can't compare the difference because I can't access the EFI partition on the affected SSD. I've now 'solved' the issue by wiping the drive clean on a Windows machine, reformating it, and installing Catalina from the USB installer. I'm restoring my setup...

Clover upgrade killed my system - advice please

I used command prompts on the Windows machine to 'clean' the drive which removed the partitions and all data, then reformatted it into GUID. My Mac still can't read the drive. So that Clover update did something really weird at a very deep level, I guess.

Clover upgrade killed my system - advice please

I've attached the drive to a Windows laptop and followed some instructions found online to open a tool called 'Disk Management'. This sees the 1TB drive and its partitions, says they are all healthy. So I'm fairly sure it's not hardware failure. It won't let me delete the EFI partition, however...

Clover upgrade killed my system - advice please

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the demo to see if it would help, and like Disk Utility, Clover Configurator, EFIMounter etc, it can't even see the affected drive. The only thing that does find the drive is the Clover bootloader on the working 250GB SSD and various USB install disks - for both...
