The Z97 Mainboard, 4790k and gtx 970 are all latest version of their kind and therefore should (do) work flawlessly together (at least under supported OS). Try to remove the 970 and start with the integrated graphics, as there are some reports claiming it causes OS X to always fail on startup. Just using nv_disable=1 is not enough in this case.. :shifty:

No, as it is optimized for gaming it won't perform as well as a (probably cheaper) workstation GPU. Additionally, the 980 is not yet (fully) supported under OS X, when this changes is not known too.
