[Guide] 10.11+ USB changes and solutions

Is this the reason the "waiting for root device" problem exists? I have a dell 980, can get going with Clover from the USB stick, but I hit the "missing bluetooth controller transport" message and then get "waiting for root device". Would patching with this USB ktext get me past that?

Where to get Yosemite installer these days?

Its not on the apple store anymore.. I am trying to put El Capitan on a Dell 980 and have hit a wall, "waiting for root device" and have tried switching ports, etc. etc. and can't get past that to get to the installer. I want to go back to Yosemite and try it, but..where the heck can you get...

    Ultimate poor man's hack

Hard to install El Capitan on these, there are USB problems and "waiting for root device" hits a lot of people, (including me!). Haven't been able to get past that on a 980 with an I7 and 8gigs.

Problem installing OSX El Capitan Optiplex 980

Same problem here - tried switching all the ports (on the 980 all ports are USB2, there are no USB3 ports), have cpus=1 set, able to get to Bluetooth IO and then get stuck on "waiting for root device".

    Used pc... Hackintosh?

Dell's too, tons and tons of them around, core duo's are about $40.00 US in my town at a used computer store. Optiplex 7xx, 8xx, and 9xx have been used a lot.

    HP Z220 Workstation on OS X 10.11

Sounds like ACPI is not set on the motherboard, that is what would happen on my Dell, same place, and the bios got reset somehow, had to turn RAID off in the drives section of the BIOS. Worth a shot if you haven't already done that. What graphics card are you using?
