Aside from forgetting I had reverted to HFS+ and not adding the apfs.efi before upgrading, learning to copy the driver into EFI using terminal was useful I guess, all is well but audio and wifi I see others having issues w/TP-Link, and audio should be the usual, don't want to chance breaking...

Did you find a solution? After restoring from a time machine backup I have HACK in my serial number and have followed everything in the guide twice and still have the bad serial, had a fully working system including iMessages before after using the guide, can't figure out what i'm doing wrong?

Bummer this is such an old thread, after part 2 of this guide I have no usb at all z97x-udh3, though I would go to linux and copy my config from a backup and delete the fakepciid.kext and the one that went with it but thanks to apfs not a chance

Have similar issue with z97x i7 4790 and gt740, the system will sleep/wake with everything woking for up to a month and then suddenly panic and take several try to reboot? sometimes it boots the first time and then panics after only a couple minutes of use? using mini hdmi

Somehow reinstalling OSX while using the HDMI cable on my 740SC resulted in a working system, woo hoo! Probably not gonna try the update today, ha ha Thanks again

Never thought of the combination of onboard gfx enabled and inject intel, but display goes to sleep again about half way through the progress bar I wasn't sure what to do about the unnecessary nvidia drivers experiment so I did a fresh install to be sure they were no longer part of the system...

Thanks for the response, I enabled onboard gfx and set display first to PCI, when booting the progress bar gets about half way then slows way down and the display goes to sleep, in verbose the attached is the last thing I see

I have the same basic hardware you're using, Following the guide I can get a bootable El Capitan but gt740 isn't recognized, i've tried webdrivers twice and end up with a system that hangs late in the boot process, never get a desktop again, any ideas what i should try?

Turns out there was a DSDT on the installation stick that was for the old G41-ES2L build, deleted it, added recommended boot flags and have a pretty good install aside from a couple of random freezes (twice in nine days?) going to be an interesting thing to figure out
