The Award Bios part is basically who makes the BIOS - sort of.. If you go into the BIOS it will often say Award, Phoenix, etc somewhere..
The 5 or 6 series part has to do with the Intel chipset. For example a P55...
Hope someone has a suggestion for me to repair this, because I'm stumped.
I have had Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion all running perfectly on this system until now:
OCZ Vertex4 SSD 256GB and 3 HDs (no fusion drive)

I have a friend that had a similar setup that worked/acted flaky.. he has 16GB RAM and one of his 4GB modules was bad, but not detected as bad by the BIOS during POST. Never overclocked or anything. It would work for a while then once it started actually addressing memory on that module get a KP...
possibly not the best solution for you, but you could do one of the following:
Put the drive in a USB-IDE enclosure and plug it externally

Asus N56 is also a notebook, so not sure where front panel ports would be.. :D
My experiences with MacOS running on notebooks has been pretty much a fail except for the Probook 4530s, and that only works thanks to Blueking and Tonymac.. Desktops, I have had fairly good luck if I look around...
My only thought is a USB 2.0 expresscard, and get to Chimera with the Unibeast flash drive in the USB 3.0 slot, then move it to the 2.0 card and refresh (or use 2 flash drives).
