Solved this I think, for any future person with a similar problem.
I decided to just keep trying different boot flags. 'UseKernelCache=No" solved this...I'm not really sure if this could hurt anything else? But it has fixed the ethernet and pro tools problems for sure!
To add to my previous post, this update also seemed to mess up Pro Tools pretty significantly, which is my main use for the computer, so now I'm really screwed. It takes almost a full 10-15 minutes to load it when before it took 15 seconds. No other program has this problem. It also seems like...
- my build is very similar and this thread has saved me a few times, but now I'm stumped. Everything was working (though there were stability issues) a few hours ago and have been for months on 10.8.4, but without thinking I just updated to 10.8.5 and ethernet stopped working. I booted into safe...
I did solve it...but unfortuntately it was too long ago for me to remember HOW I solved it. I really just kept trying different boot flags I think, and wrote down which combinations I had tried, and just sat there trying like 50 combinations til one worked. But it IS possible, if that helps that...

Intel i7-3930k Hexa-Core
Gigabyte LGA 2011 GA-X79s-UP5
EVGA Geforce GTX...
Thanks for your reply. I misspoke in my last message...I am still trying to boot from Unibeast, not multibeast. So I haven't even gotten to a point of using either easybeast or dsdst-free...to be honest I'm not 100% sure on that at this point since I hadn't gotten that far.
I tried using those...
