Had to erase and install, then run the combo update after a Time Machine migration of all my data etc. I'd recommend updating the BIOS to UEFi. Take it you've tried entering 'GraphicsEnabler=no" in at the bootloader for the black screen problem?

Corsair kindly replaced the two sticks I returned to them (only one threw up any faults via MemTest). In the 10 days the faulty stick was removed from the machine I have had zero issues. New memory back in today, so far so good. Not to JINX it but it looks like I've finally cracked it...

Updated to UEFI, what a PITA that was, eventually found out you cannot use Q Flash to upgrade from F version BIOS' to UEFi so after much messing around with FreeDOS DVDs I ended up creating a Windows 98 USB boot drive and it was done in 5 minutes. Machine seems to be a bit quicker, boots...

If/when you boot from your installer or after a clean install does the system boot fine with no errors?

Thanks for all the replies, so much help :-) The system definition is MacPro 3,1 at present, I'll switch to iMac 12,2 if the problems arrise before I make the jump to UEFI on the M/Board.

Can you post your boot.plist contents? I managed to get my machine to stop displaying the error and boot within two spins of the running gear (kernel wheel) - granted I'm running an SSD drive. Thanks
