I wouldn't use a board like that, you can adapt the eDP directly to a normal displayport and the inverter can be reused too.

I am aware of the existence of thin mini ITX boards but they are impossible to find used here and new they are waaaaay too expensive. I can get a H77 board with an i3 3240 for 65€ while an ASUS H310 thin mini ITX board costs 130€ new and that's the cheapest one, Gigabyte boards are 170€. These...

Nice build, haven't seen an iMac G5 mod in a long time... I wanna do one myself but with an ITX board and maybe even a GPU, as far as I know something like that hasn't been done before.

Awesome, I wish I could put a Threadripper in a G5/Mac Pro case. Wow that PSU location is stupid though. Just put the PSU in the old G5 PSU case.

Also you don't need a controller for an eDP screen.

LOL. Maybe you should try a 24" plastic iMac. I've had this idea for a while now, maybe when I have the money and find a broken 24" I will do it. There should be enough space in there for an ITX board and even a small GPU like an RX 560.

You definitely need an amplifier...

I've tried driving small speakers from my motherboard's audio out, the result absolutely pathetic. As I already said your motherboard's out is extremely weak, pretty much all speakers have a built in amplifier.

So how is this a case mod?

This would work but your audio would be very quiet because your motherboard's audio out is nowhere near powerful enough. You'd need an amplifier of some sort. And you could also wire it to your motherboard's front panel audio header instead so you have nothing sticking out of the back.
