Yeah, I’ve been running this setup for about a month now and it’s super cool and quiet. I can’t even hear the fans with the computer sitting on the floor next to me.
I might have gone a bit overkill with the extra case fans but I’m not regretting it at this point. My CPU temps are hovering...
Reporting back that Etcher indeed worked to create a bootable USB with the Samsung Firmware Updater. I was using unetbootin to create the bootable USB before and that simply wasn’t working (wouldn’t boot from the USB at all). The Etcher bootable worked perfectly.
Thanks for your help
How did you do the firmware update? I can't get it to boot from the USB and it sounds like you need a windows installation to even booth the firmware ISO from the USB. I'm debating installing Windows on a partition on my main drive just so I can install this damn firmware update lol.
I ended up going with two 140mm Noctua NH-A15 fans on the front and two more on the top keeping my stock 120mm fan in the back. I mounted the CPU cooler (Noctua D15S) with the fan blowing up directly to one of the top exhaust fans (there's about an inch between them) so it is exhausting straight...
I thought I picked all the right parts off PC Part Picker, but somewhere along the line in adding items to my cart on Amazon, I somehow picked the wrong RAM. I bought SODIMMs instead of full size 288 pin DIMMs.
I'm using a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro motherboard which has 4 288 pin DIMM slots. I am...
I mistakenly bought a Samsung 970 Evo Plus to use in my first build as a secondary drive (OS will go on an 860 Evo). I recently learned that the 970 Evo Plus doesn’t work without the firmware update so I’ve been doing research trying to figure that out.
I’ve gotten as fast as creating a...
I just received all the parts to start my first build and I’m starting to think about air flow and it isn’t making sense.
I’ve got a Corsair 270R case with a single 120mm exhaust fan in the back. I’ll be using a Noctua D15S cooler with two 140mm exhaust fans that I plan to mount on the top of...
hehe, not on a desert island but I literally don’t know a single person with a PC. I guess I could knock on my neighbors doors but I’m sure I can find an easier solution. I’ll try the bootable USB firmware update tonight and see how that goes.
That’s Windows only, no? I unfortunately don’t have access to a windows machine. I‘m planning to try updating the firmware via a bootable USB before installing Mojave on my new build tonight, but if I didn’t have to do that, that would be awesome!
How did you check the firmware version of the drive? I just bought a 970 EVO Plus to use as a secondary drive in my first build and I’m trying to figure out if/how I need to install the firmware update.
Do we have any idea what’s going to be required to get Sidecar working on a Hackintosh? I discovered with the beta that my MacBook Pro is too old and not supported but I don’t know if that’s a hardware issue or just arbitrary. Would be great to get it working on my new Hackintosh!
