Yep, this 100%. I also use the Terminal commands to update kexts in /Library/Extensions so I don't corrupt them or mess up the kext cache. I used to have a few duplicate kexts in my EFI partition but I killed them and now only have a single set in /Library/Extensions.

I had to update software to use my Logitech Unifying mouse in Catalina. Never had to do that in Mojave.

Updated to 10.14.2 using Software Update, no problems at all. I did do a custom SSDT when I upgraded to 10.14.1 -- it's actually pretty easy; you can kind of ignore most of the "how to" post since it deals with multiple what-if scenarios.

Your SSTD will still be fine. To your computer, a hub is just another USB3 device.
