Running two displays (one 4k) on Geforce GTX 970 SSC?

With your help, I've set up a lovely Hackintosh, which I mainly use for web development work and some photo editing in Lightroom. I'm now considering getting a second display, and I've got a question about hardware compatibility. Is the Geforce GTX 970 SSC card I've got now powerful enough to...

How to create a bootable Windows 10 USB in OS X using Terminal

I was finally able to create a bootable Windows USB installation disk using a Mac. Here's how I installed Windows on a second SSD from start to finish: 1.Format the eventual Windows SSD drive using Disk Utility as a Journaled/GUID drive so there's an EFI volume in place for booting with...

How to create a bootable Windows 10 USB in OS X using Terminal

This is at odds with the first message in this thread. FWIW, I seem to have gotten things working by using Boot Camp setup on the Mac to copy my ISO to a thumb drive, which I could then use to install Windows. I haven't gotten Clover integration working yet, but it's nice to have a dual-boot...

How to create a bootable Windows 10 USB in OS X using Terminal

Same here. I used DD to copy the Windows installation ISO to the USB drive, and when I try to boot the PC from USB, I get " "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." Very frustrating.

[GUIDE] Remove extra Clover BIOS boot entries & prevent further problems

Jumping the gun here a bit, but here's my plan: use the USB drive to boot into OS X back up the existing/corrupt EFI partition using dd format that partition use the Clover installer to re-install Clover to the now-empty EFI partition modify the fresh EFI files according to the build...

[GUIDE] Remove extra Clover BIOS boot entries & prevent further problems

Say you, umm, delete the wrong boot entries and can now only boot into OS X with the USB boot drive installed… How would you go about fixing that?

Full Parts List Check — No Video Card Okay? (Gigabyte GA-H170N, Skylake, …)

And whoops…! I just realized that the Gigabyte motherboard is incompatible with my display, a Dell UltraSharp U2715H, since the display has DisplayPort connectors and the motherboard doesn't! Guess I'll have to spring for that GPU :-D

Full Parts List Check — No Video Card Okay? (Gigabyte GA-H170N, Skylake, …)

Thanks, DaandeGroot. Just to clarify: Will I be able to plug the install drive into one of the USB 3.0 ports, or do I need to plug into a USB 2.0 port to install? (If the latter, I'll need to sort out a fix, since my mobo lacks USB 2.0 ports, though it does have headers for one.) That's awesome...

Full Parts List Check — No Video Card Okay? (Gigabyte GA-H170N, Skylake, …)

Thanks everybody! I ordered my parts the other day, and everything but the case is already here. Neither my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-H170N-WIFI) nor case (Fractal Design Node 202) has USB 2.0 ports — they only have USB 3.0 ones. Can I install OS X with Unibeast over USB 3.0, or should I get a...

Full Parts List Check — No Video Card Okay? (Gigabyte GA-H170N, Skylake, …)

Oh yeah, I've got a BCM94352Z card on order. I hadn't caught that — thanks. Would a Geforce GT 740 work? Looks like I can get one of those for under $50 on eBay.

Full Parts List Check — No Video Card Okay? (Gigabyte GA-H170N, Skylake, …)

I'm narrowing down my options for my first Hackintosh, and I'd appreciate hearing opinions about the following list. The machine will be used for Ruby on Rails web development and web browsing, with a bit of Lightroom photo editing every couple months. Since I'm not a gamer, do you think I can...

Drive Configurations — M.2, SSD, HDD

Thanks for all the useful feedback, everybody. M.2 drive's are tempting, but I think I'm going to go with a fast 1TB SSD for capacity & cost reasons.

Drive Configurations — M.2, SSD, HDD

I've started planning my first Hackintosh build, and I'm wondering what people are doing to manage multiple drives. In particular, I'm tempted to get an 128GB M.2 SSD and pair it with a 2TB HDD, but is this the best choice… For others running several types of drives at once, how do you use...
