i have the same motherboard and cpu and get the exact same error message and if you boot without -v you may end up getting the black screen with a circle with a line through it

so the problem could be trying to install with a 980 installed? also im getting no where i've spent all day trying to install either 10.10 or 10.11 but neither of them will work my motherboard doesn't help as no one has really documented the install method for it
