I have the same problem. Until now always updated directly via the AppStore/System Preferences Pane. Now no Install Disk is showing in Clover (updated to the latest version). Weird thing is: Not even Catalina USB stick is recognised.
Found the problem. Reason was that an old apfs.efi from High Sierra was in my drivers64UEFI folder. Using ApfsDriverLoader.efi now. Just changing the old OsxAptioFix2Drv-64.efi with AptioMemoryFix.efi and deleting EmuVariableUEFI-64.efi (thought that I still need it for iMessage) was not enough...
On every startup I see the message that my computer was restarted because of a problem.
System uptime in the log is always the same, so I guess it's a faulty error that's stored somewhere.
I read other threads with similar problems, but deleting nvram.plist didn't help and sudo nvram -c...
Try disabling "Wake for network access" in System Settings --> Energy Saver. This helped me get rid of a problem with very high WiFi latencies after wake from sleep.
I guess this has definitely something to do with High Sierra itself, as there are several threads on the net about graphic related software that address rendering issues both on Intel and other graphics hardware. Regarding browsers it is a lot better for me in Firefox and Safari than in Chrome...
I updated to High Sierra two weeks ago and am facing a boot issue since then.
