Switching to 4k went well. Instantly worked after plugging in the mDP cable instead of the two DP. Looks like the cursor problem is gone now. Far away from ideal and not as sharp as 5k but definitely the best solution so far. Thanks everyone for pulling that up!

Thanks for getting back on this. Sorry to hear that it didn't work. I wonder if our problem would be better handled with CUDA drivers. Looks like I have to wrap my head around all that stuff a bit more to see what Cuda exactly changes and which hardware is supported.
