    FCPX graphic card question

I ran a single and later dual Sapphire Dual X 7970's on that board for quite a while under Sierra. Very easy cards for my hack. I also tried a 580 and had pure trouble. Went back to the dual 7970's.

    i7-3770K / Z77-UD5H / Sierra /iMac 13.2 / Can't get overclocking

I did. And this might frustrate you: I went back to 13,2 and restarted and there it was. Currently Geekbenching around 16k. 14,2 has consistently not worked for me. I had numerous boot issues. Once back to 13,2, smooth as silk.

Final Cut Pro X FCPX Graphic Card performance

Great. Thanks much both of you. Seems like I will upgrade to HS from Sierra. @Stork Will follow up with you in your GA-Z77X-UP5-TH thread.

Final Cut Pro X FCPX Graphic Card performance

@EddyMac I've been wondering if I should upgrade to 10.13.4 (which is a bit more effort on my board). Is that what you are running? How is the RX 580 for you? Do you use FCPX? @Stork stated in several threads that this card was on Apple's list of approved cards for eGPUs started with 10.12.6...

Final Cut Pro X FCPX Graphic Card performance

@John V How's your experience been with the 280X? I also just purchased a Sapphire Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB but it has had a bunch of glitchy issues in FCPX which is the reason for my Hackintosh. I have been running a pair of Sapphire 7970s but since upgrading to Sierra, they have not been as...

    [Updated] Stork's Thunderbolt Build: i5-3570K | GA-Z77X-UP5-TH | GTX 760

That's great to hear. I don't mind eeking as much life out of this box as possible. I can hold out until the eight-core 9700k's are available. I found a 4.5GHz OC was my sweet spot and a 15.7k score is... fine. I mean, good. Also good to know how smooth the RX580 in FCPX. I've been nursing my...

    [Updated] Stork's Thunderbolt Build: i5-3570K | GA-Z77X-UP5-TH | GTX 760

I will be interested to read your experience of updating to HS. I recently (and so smoothly) updated to Sierra but have read in these forums folks having issues with the HS update on our board. Hence, I've steered clear to date.

Thunderbolt worth the trouble? A video editor asks...

I am wondering, yes! Thanks much for the report back. It confirms how I have been again leaning in the past weeks, which is to have a more modular set up, i.e. external RAID box and a smaller machine itself. Also glad to read of a successful Asus system and apparently the ThunderboltEX 3 card...

    i7-3770K / Z77-UD5H / Sierra /iMac 13.2 / Can't get overclocking

@surfgeorge I know this is an ancient thread, but I have an ancient Hack that I am trying to nurse a little bit longer. I had a stable 4.5 OC but since updating firmware and updating to Sierra, I have not been able to recreate. Just found your thread and will go thru the above guide as well...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte AORUS Z370 Gaming 7 - i7-8700K - Nvidia GeForce GT740, Uadio Apollo 8

Nice build. Following this. Comments on the TB speeds? What type of peripherals are you using?

Thunderbolt worth the trouble? A video editor asks...

Boy, that would be slow for an internal SSD, I think. Yes, I am working with a 9TB internal RAID5 that I have set up with SoftRAID. My read/write bounces around the 400Mb/s and the dropped frames I am getting in FCPX these days I think is a processor bottleneck when I have a multicam, multiple...

Thunderbolt worth the trouble? A video editor asks...

@BoomR Thanks, and interesting to hear that folks are working to create better TB functionality. What are you using the LaCie TB drives you've mentioned for all that footage (they don't seem particularly fast)? Or do you have hard drives internal beyond the OS SSDs in your writeup? Curious as...

Thunderbolt worth the trouble? A video editor asks...

I've been prioritizing TB in the past and don't know if it is worth it for my next build. Rather than daisy-chaining many devices and a monitor at the end (I don't), all I really need for the editing I do should be covered via USB-C SSD external drive speeds, which would allow me to be more...
