Initially I changed the ram, still had problems. Tried isolating if it was one problem stick, changing every obscure timing and latency setting in the bios.....still problems. Then I changed the board, thought it was solved, still had problems. What ended up totally fixing it was switching to...
UniBeast 6.1 says "Mac OS installer is incomplete"
Yikes. That's a pretty big discrepancy that should have such a basic fix. You'd think the first thing the App Store would check is how many bytes the file is. Haha.
UniBeast 6.1 says "Mac OS installer is incomplete"
Mine said this too the first time I tried to make the USB. Who knows why. I deleted the installer on my computer, redownloaded and then it worked.
A z97 Deluxe. It's worked perfectly so far. The only thing I had to turn off was the sleep option because that was causing problems. I'm sure it could be working but I don't feel like investing the time in figuring out what the magic combination is.
I'm glad to report that I haven't had a single freeze since getting my Asus z97 board. Same ram and I get to use all of it. It's nice to just use the computer and not have it be an ongoing troubleshooting project.

What I did was dick around with it for the better part of a year, systematically trying every solution I've found on here and elsewhere. Then, last week I found the solution: I went to the computer store and bought an...

If you ever find the answer, let me know. I have pretty much the same setup and have been plagued with this from the start. It's rampant with this motherboard and four sticks of ram. If I pull two I far less frequent freezes, but they're still there sometimes.
I almost hate to say this, but...
Thanks so, so much for this. It allowed me to upgrade my Apple Ati 5770 to a Gigabyte HD 7950. I was getting that weird boot0: done error without this fix.
