In other words, IT'S SOLVED!! (for now...) Thanks so much for your help, VioletDragon! Crossing fingers I won't have to get a separate card just yet...
For others future reference:
Z77-DS3H rev 1.1 mobo with AR8161 Ethernet
Just install the AtherosE2200Ethernet v2.2.0 that comes in MultiBeast...
OKAY, IT'S FIXED! (I think?) Can't confirm whether it works well or not, but Ethernet is now showing up in my system info!! :)
I'm pretty sure I was just totally overthinking it and assuming that the kext in MultiBeast wouldn't work and that I needed something older to match my motherboard... I...
So you think there's no hope for the on-board Ethernet? Anything else I could try? I'm not sure if I have space for another card in my case, I'd have to check...
Ethernet still not showing up in System Info... Getting this error now, like with the FakeSMC kexts- but it's progress!!?
kext-dev-mode allowing invalid signature -67062 0xFFFFFFFFFFFEFA0A for kext AtherosL1cEthernet.kext
Okay- thanks!! And to uninstall the old kext before trying this one, what would you recommend?
I followed this guide to uninstall before, and the kextunload command didn't work (errored out), so I just removed it using the rm command. Is that okay...
This is what I got:
kext-dev-mode allowing invalid signature -67062 0xFFFFFFFFFFFEFA0A for kext FakeSMC_LPCSensors.kext
kext-dev-mode allowing invalid signature -67062 0xFFFFFFFFFFFEFA0A for kext FakeSMC_GPUSensors.kext
kext-dev-mode allowing invalid signature -67062 0xFFFFFFFFFFFEFA0A for...
At this point, I just want Ethernet to appear in the system, it doesn't actually have to be fully functional (I use wifi because of where the router is situated) Maybe I will try to install one of the options in MultiBeast and see how that goes...
I did double check that it was Enabled in the BIOS earlier, and it is. (I really thought that might have been it for a moment!)
Okay, so I booted into Windows and this is what I got:
So it looks like the Ethernet (AR8161) is being read just fine on Windows!
Will UPDATE in just a moment back...
I just did a fresh install of Sierra, and everything seems to be working great so far! EXCEPT:
I have a Z77-DS3H motherboard (rev 1.1), and I'm trying to get my Ethernet to show up so I can get iMessage working. Only my Wifi and Bluetooth show up under Network, and under Ethernet Cards in the...
Hmmm! I'll have to take a look and see if that helps- thanks! So you think it might be an issue with the 760? I'm still on 10.11, also.
It's just so bizarre how intermittent the issue is, since sometimes it boots up JUST FINE.
So I CAN boot right into Mac OS X with no issues... sometimes. On normal boot, it takes like 15 seconds or something, and the progress bar merely flashes on the screen before the login screen appears. But sometimes when I go to boot, it hangs on the startup progress bar forever and never...
