Just a short update,
AppleALC still has no support for Dell XPS 17 9700.
AppleALC 1.7.2 breaks the HDMI sound. So in case your monitor stops giving you sounds downgrade i.e. to 1.7.0.

I was hoping the Linux community will get it working but no luck so far. HDMI sound works though.
Since I have an external monitor and my Fireface connected anyways no I have real need for it.
Not sure if I'll go after it. I actually keep it for my music recordings as it really has muscles and a fantastic display, never seen any other like it.
For my daily work I have my C740 and since recently an i9 S740 which was really nice and easy to hack since it's quite simple to get to the...
Strange, are you sure it's the dGPU to blame for the power drain? It is possible I never noticed anything because I never move it around. It's just too heavy.
As for the hibernation mode I went through the Dortania guide and on top of that I unlocked the CFG LOCK. Sleep worked more or less...
Here's my EFI, try it out. If it works just replace the serial placeholders. I would actually need to clean it up a little but it works OK, so I don't care.
Actually Bluetooth is broken.
Back to topic, Whatevergreen deactivates the DGPU, there is a simple parameter you need...
Strange, I have an 9700 as well, at least here, no special SSDT needed. Sleep is working fine.

Actually it's not just hardware, it's the whole package and the Apple ecosystem is unique in its interaction capabilities. I totally agree with pastrychef, they have a tiger in their tank and they will release it bit by bit and hammer Intel in the years to come.
The keynote was quite a slap in...
First thought would be to use your own DSDT.aml. This one is for the i7/16GB version. I think I applied only the I2C patches so if you disable it from loading it in this config your Trackpad and touchscreen might not work but everything else should.
If you're trying out an EFI for the first...
This is an updated EFI with OpenCore v0.6.6. Some kexts are not the most recent since newer versions run into issues / black screen. If you want to update to Big Sur 11.2 you need Open Core v0.6.6.
