Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

I couldn't get HEVC to work with FCPX back when I had RX580 as well. I believe that it has nothing to do with the state of iGPU. RX580 just doesn't give you HEVC acceleration in FCPX after a certain version. I was also getting better H.264 (I use it more than HEVC) performance when using both...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

I do nothing special. In fact, I don't even set a frame-buffer or use any DSDT patches related to graphics. I let WhateverGreen handle everything and make sure that there are no clashes. In bios though, I set the memory allocation to maximum number possible. In my current machine it's 64 and in...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

dGPU is always primary. With iMacPro1,1 & MacPro7,1 iGPU frame-buffer makes no difference. It's same be it headless or otherwise. With iMac17/18/19 etc. if iGPU is enabled and headless then iGPU & dGPU both are used for acceleration. Never tried with non-headless frame-buffer with these smbios.

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

Let me add to it that HEVC works with 10.4.8 when iGPU is ENABLED in the bios. Even if you use smbios which don't use iGPU i.e. iMacPro1,1. iGPU doesn't get utilised though, dGPU handles everything. But it has to be ENABLED in the bios. Due to this I had to spend extra and buy i7-9700k instead...

Hackintosh with a unique touch! Looking for suggestions/recommendations

Hi, I have the same Motherboard and I have few questions if you don't mind asking. Are you using the RGB or ARGB header? the Motherboard LED hangs after a while on my machine and doesn't restore until a proper power cycle. Are you dealing with similar or same problem? My machine also randomly...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

I tried it with iGPU off and 'IsHardwareAccelerated' is still showing 1. I must add that I only lose HEVC acceleration in FCPX. VideoProc on the other hand says that the HEVC support is there. With iGPU off FCPX taxes CPU like crazy when exporting HEVC file and it also takes ages to complete. I...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

Hi, I am sorry for the late reply. There have been few updates: My Vega64 died and now I only have 5700xt and I re-installed macOS and switched to OpenCore. The situation with HEVC is still the same. No HEVC acceleration when iGPU is off. Thank You Much of the things you said were beyond my...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

Yes, I did I have updated both lilu and weg. I have Vega 64 and I think the AMD acceleration issue with Catalina was with only 4**/5** cards but I could be wrong. I have tested it on 2 PC, one has 5700 XT and other Vega 64, both machines lose HEVC support when iGPU is disabled. I tried both...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

Hardware support for HEVC disables when I disable iGPU with 10.15.3 - iMacPro smbios. Back when I was using Mojave I had switched to iMacPro smbios and at that point both HEVC and H.264 was being handled by AMD, there was no difference whether iGPU was on or off in BIOS. But I kept it ON for...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

Thanks a lot for your help. Greatly appreciate it. :) I get that iMac 18,3 is a better option and I'll ultimately go with that only but I'd still like to know why the FCP crash is happening. I've tried just about every single possible configuration, including changing shikigva values, iGPU...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

No, it doesn't crash when using iGPU to handle acceleration, in fact, I was using iGPU with 18,3 only before 10.14.5. FCP crashes when I use RX580 only with imacpro1,1. On top of that it only crashes when you work with h.264 file, prores works fine. And no, it's not going down to 0.8, stays...

Radeon RX 4XX/5XX standalone system, AMDRadeonX4250.kext (GVA support H264) does not support HEVC HW

I see that you've changed the SMBIOS to iMac18,3. Wouldn't it use iGPU for h.264 and HEVC? I want RX580 to handle both. And yes, speed step is working. Or at least I think so, I use CPUfriend with a merged SSDT. Using just plugin type causes my machine to reboot when waking from sleep.

Hi, could you please take a look at my config as well? I am in the same boat as j1979, FCP crashes when I apply effects.

I am facing same issue. Tried many things but it hangs still. Reverted to 18,3 with iGPU enabled.
