Not quite sure what this brings to the table. My CPU is marked as unknown and speed is now 3.81 despite a 4.2 OC. Built in Audio is recognised in system profiler but not in AMS..... Not sure I can see anything else. I'm using a imac smbios....would I be better off using a different one?

What is your ambient temp? My temps are 10 degrees hotter than yours both at idle and at full load - at 4.2Ghz. I using a Noctua NH-D14 - but my ambient temperate is 30-35 degrees

Its a requirement of X79 that turbo be enabled to OC. You can OC by adjusting BCLK but you can only adjust the turbo multiplier if you want to go that route.

I figured as much - but was confused by the fact that you need turbo enabled in order to be able to overclock. Did you change the voltages or just adjust the multiplier?

I was stable - ran prime95 in windows for 2 hours and had it running at 4.2 in OSX under general use for almost 24 hours. Rebooted one time and the BIOS reported failure to overclock and it was downhill from there. I'm using the P9X79 Pro board with G.Skillz Ripjawz 16GB RAM in a 4x4 config...
