[Guide] El Capitan on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

I also attempted to do a totally new installation on a new SSD via OpenCore. I was not successful either. Depending on time, I may try again later.

macOS Mojave is Now Available on the Mac App Store

I am currently still running El Capitan, can I go straight to Mojave?

Best Single Slot Low Profile GPU for a Kaby Lake Sierra build?

Do you need displayport? You can unlock 1440p via HDMI with pixel clock patch. That's what I did and it works great.

I would try and install the pixel clock patch.

Are you using that switch res software or whatever it is called?

[Guide] El Capitan on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

Pixel Clock Patch is what you need. I know it will enable 1440p via HDMI, but not sure about the Ultrawide 1440p. You'll have to try and find out. Take a look at this article/video: https://9to5mac.com/2016/06/04/how-to-enable-4k-60hz-resolution-2016-macbook/ It's not specific for the...

[Update] Sierra on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

I'm in the same boat. No room for graphics card. Just have to wait! Good thing that I have no problems staying with El Capitan for a while.

[Update] Sierra on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

Yeah, I have El Capitan now and everything is literally perfect with HD 530 and 1440p monitor via HDMI. I'm going to hold off on Sierra until things (hopefully) improve.

[Update] Sierra on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

Wow, ok. Interesting as I thought that you needed the pixel clock patch to get over 1080p via HDMI. Obviously you got it working. Are there artifacts with the HD 530?

Via HDMI? And what motherboard are you using?

[Update] Sierra on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

I have the same monitor and also running HD530. I'm still on El Cap, is this a brand new build (straight to Sierra) or did you have El Cap on it before? I used the Pixel Clock patch to get 1440p working but I am hearing it doesn't work on Sierra. Would love to know that is the case for sure...

[Guide] El Capitan on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

Run the Pixel Clock Patch and you won't need a GPU. You can do 1440p via the HDMI port. I have this exact build running a 1440p monitor via HDMI flawlessly without a GPU.

[Update] Sierra on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

I'm reading that the Pixel Clock Patch is not working in Sierra. Does anyone know a workaround? If that's the case, I'm going to hold off on Sierra until it is resolved.

That same thing happened to me until I entered the Vendor name and Serial numbers. After that, it showed up in "About this Mac" perfectly. Go ahead and enter that info and you should be good.

Is this build going to be able to be updated straight away to MacOS Sierra when its out? Or will we just have to wait and see?
