Dunno...I have reinstalled many many times with all 16 Gigs installed. I do boot 10.6.3 as the starting point.

My old laptop was a 1525...which method did you use? 10.6.7?

Yes it will. I have a 27" Apple Cinema Display and I'm using the HD-687A-ZDFC which is the same card with better cooling and is whisper quiet. Works OOB. Use MB 3.5 or later, select the new ATI kexts, GraphicsEnabler=Yes, and Chimera bootloader. I attempted to get my 5770 batmobile to work...

Are you trying to install a ATI 5870? I ask because your profile indicates you are using a nVidia 8800. If you are trying to inject a framebuffer in your DSDT have you tried the new Multibeast 3.5.2? Works dang good with GraphicsEnabler=Yes.

Come on guys...this forum is full of successful installs with XFX HD-687A-ZDBC . Try the search. It is your friend. Anyway, use the new iBoot and new Multibeast, works great, couldn't be any easier.
