macOS Big Sur Does NOT Boot with iMac14,2 System Definition

Thank you. I’m holding off for a bit, as I am concerned about the impact a change in Serial Number has on iMessage, and also things like software which checks if it’s still installed on the same machine (I think Parallels does this, and then forces you to pay again if you change the Serial...

macOS Big Sur Does NOT Boot with iMac14,2 System Definition

Thanks. I've got more experience fiddling with Clover Configurator. But just a quick question - in following this approach using MultiBeast, I presume it leaves all the other settings & kexts one may have in the EFI undisturbed? It just changes the SysDef (and Serial Number)..? Thanks.

macOS Big Sur Does NOT Boot with iMac14,2 System Definition

Just a general question. I'm a long time hackintosh user (since Sierra), using the iMac 14,2 system definition under Clover. Over time have got everything working, including iMessage (except DRM content) and the setup is very stable. So really trying to plan ahead to think about the potential...

Having problems with Installing the 10.15.5 Supplemental Update

Ah, I wrote my reply before I saw this: Glad to see it. :)

Having problems with Installing the 10.15.5 Supplemental Update

Others with more experience should be able to add to my answer. But this behavior you are seeing is quite typical and okay. First of all I am assuming that you already have Catalina installed in an earlier version, say 10.15.2, 10.15.3 or 10.15.4. I would suggest the following steps: in order...

    macOS 10.15.5 Supplemental Update

Updated to 10.15.5 from 10.15.2. Three reboots selecting 'prebooter install' from Clover each time. I'd also updated Clover to version 5119 before running the update (using Clover Install/Update Clover to download the latest version). And I used the Clover Tool to update the Kexts identified as...

Sabrent rocket and no 512e sectors

Wow. Thank you for this review & comment. I was just looking to add an extra NVME drive to my system (the existing one is a Samsung EVO) and this comment has convinced me not to go with the Sabrent (which is on sale and looking quite inexpensive on Amazon right now..)

<< Solved >> System reboots on formerly rock solid setup after Catalina install

Pls read this thread here https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/success-catalina-on-gigabyte-ga-z170x-ud5-th.284708/post-2048873 The problem is most likely your optical drive causing the kernel panic. The exact patch I posted in that posting works and should solve this issue.

    RAID O on M2.NVME SSD

Jay - Thanks. I think you're right on this. As it happens I'd had the NVMe SSD connected in slow M2H_32G slot for some reason. I moved it to M2D_32G. And this makes about a 10% improvement in speed (read and write) on this setup. It's doing about 1.88MB/s Write and 2.22MB/s read -- not amazing...

    RAID O on M2.NVME SSD

Thanks Jay. That's incredibly helpful detail. I checked my motherboard manual and as you say one M2 is serviced by the CPU and one by the PCIe lanes (in fact it knocks out slot PCIEX4). My manual discusses this on page 29/30 (copy attached for those interested). But in short reading what you've...

    RAID O on M2.NVME SSD

Just a question. My machine currently has a Samsung M2.NVME SSD (the 960 EVO) which works well as the Main system (boot and all data) drive on Catalina. The machine has two M2 ports... and was giving some thought to adding another one in RAID 0 and attempting to use that to improve speed. There...

<< Solved >> Shutdown issue Catalina

On my machine with this patch in place the sleep/wake works normally with no issues.

Catalina Update Won't Boot With SATA Port Enabled

NorthAmTransAm just a question. Do you have a DVD, or other type of optical drive attached to any of your SATA ports? For my machine this was the cause of a similar type of 'panic' btw (not standard SATA hard drives, or SSDs but the optical drive).

Success: Catalina on Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 TH

SOLVED MY ISSUE: Just to add to this thread. Further diagnosis indicated that it was the DVD r/w drive that was causing 'random power downs' in Catalina. There is a patch which Trizel has put together for Clover, the discussion and patch can be found here. This is worth anyone who has a...
