    [Success!] Snbd889's Video Editing Build: Core i7-4790k - GA-Z97X-UD5H - 16GB CORSAIR VENGENANCE RAM

@mactob No worries. I sometimes go a few months without logging in too. I ended up getting help from @adrianstone in another thread. Was able to combine some of his settings with mine to get a mostly stable build. Posted everything on a github repo, to help out other people with similar...

    iMac 2017 Video Editing Build

Yeah, I've been looking at upgrade options as well. Looks like the processor isn't much faster and don't see many benefits to the motherboard. However, this newer build can support faster memory and faster SSD drives. However, a cheaper option would be to add an additional 16GB DDR3 ram to my...

    iMac 2017 Video Editing Build

I just updated this build with a smaller, much faster M.2 SSD and added a Wireless AC card. This build now costs $2,090.05. And it'd cost a mere $1398.75 if you already had a monitor, mouse, and keyboard; that's half the cost of the official iMac! I'm considering increasing the RAM on this...

    iMac 2017 Video Editing Build

That's interesting. I've heard rumors about it for a while, but haven't ready much. So does that mean Toshiba ram might get cheaper next year on Amazon? I'm not in any rush, since my z97x-ud5h is still performing OK...but wanted to go ahead and start researching for a possible 2017 or 2018...

    iMac 2017 Video Editing Build

Yeah, that fan is still a bit pricey. How much is the Noctua cooler you'd recommend? The K750 keyboard works flawlessly in UEFI on my current z97x-ud5h hackintosh. I've also got several wireless mouses that work as well. And I've got an extra wired keyboard laying around. So not concerned about...

    iMac 2017 Video Editing Build

I just priced out the equivalent of a $2700 (upgraded) iMac on NewEgg. Here's a summary of the hackintosh specs: Fractal Design R5 Case (added to summary) 4.2 GHz quad-core i7 16GB 3000MHz DDR4 GTX 1060 with 6GB Ram 500 GB SSD 250 GB M.2 Drive (new item, smaller, but much faster) Wireless AC...

    Success Build!!!: macOS Sierra on gigabyte z97x ud5h+ i7 4770k+ 16gb ram+ gtx 760

Forgot to mention, but the loss of audio is a common issue that a bunch of hackintoshes have. The z97x-ud5h uses the alc1150 audio codec, which isn't officially supported by OS X. Your best bet would be to install VoodooHDA with the half volume fix. I did not do that with my computer, though...

    Success Build!!!: macOS Sierra on gigabyte z97x ud5h+ i7 4770k+ 16gb ram+ gtx 760

I haven't had any auto-reboots since I worked around this issue 3 months ago. Never cared much for iPhoto anyways...and Lightroom's facial recognition doesn't have this "auto-rebooting" issue. That being said, your solution sounds interesting. I'll have to try that if I run into any future problems.

Sierra Black Screen with Inject Nvidia disabled

I'm not familiar with your motherboard, but have found this graphics card to be the most compatible with the 14,2 system definition. Also, you haven't opened iPhoto btw? I had an issue about a week ago with the new facial recognition feature causing a constant reboot.

    Success Build!!!: macOS Sierra on gigabyte z97x ud5h+ i7 4770k+ 16gb ram+ gtx 760

@adrianstone I don't know how close your config is to mine, but I've had zero crashes since the iPhoto snaffu. And I haven't touched my config since I put it on Github. So here's a few questions that might help debug this issue: Are there any differences between your config and mine? Are the...

Photos App Causes instant power cycle of System

I started having the exact same issue with the z97x-ud5h after opening up an old iPhoto catalog for the first time. Did a bit of research and it seems to have something to do with the facial recognition feature in iPhoto. Here's the steps I took to break out of that reboot cycle: Booted into...

    Success Build!!!: macOS Sierra on gigabyte z97x ud5h+ i7 4770k+ 16gb ram+ gtx 760

Update: Did some research on this issue tonight. It looks like this is a known issue with the facial recognition feature in iPhoto on the z97x-ud5h. After opening iPhoto for the first time, the computer reboots within a minute of logging in. Here's the steps I took to break out of that reboot...

    Success Build!!!: macOS Sierra on gigabyte z97x ud5h+ i7 4770k+ 16gb ram+ gtx 760

@adrianstone: Have you had any more issues with random restarts? My computer has been running stable for the past 1 1/2 months, but started random rebooting last night after opening an old iPhoto catalog. Now it's stuck in a reboot cycle. It'll boot up fine, but then do an unprompted reboot...

    Success Build!!!: macOS Sierra on gigabyte z97x ud5h+ i7 4770k+ 16gb ram+ gtx 760

I actually tweaked your settings a few weeks ago and it's been booting up successfully and running stable. I think the key was running on 14,2 and rebuilding the kernel caches with these terminal commands: sudo rm -r /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches sudo touch...
