I found that if I hit the reset and forced a reboot after the installer hung, I could finally get it to boot Mojave. But that brings me to the next problem - what to select in MultiBeast so that it will boot again. Unfortunately I chose poorly, and the reboot hung.

Just as an experiment - installed and booted High Sierra using another USB: After several attempts when the machine rebooted to the Clover boot loader, it miraculously installed and booted High Sierra! Unfortunately I have not done the post-install steps and re-booted it before running...
