After a few hiccups (install issues due to my own 'impatience' amongst other things) I have an up and running, very smooth 19,1
For what it's worth as info for others: If you encounter installation issues with i.e. stuck at 2 minutes in the Mojave install or a very slow post install boot...
Ok, going to have a go at this build. Will be my 3rd. When everything goes well, my stuff arrives tomorrow.
EDIT: Stuff arrived, only thing that's missing is the GPU...will arrive tomorrow. Keeping you posted.
I'm thinking of building this machine. Question however:
- why the 2 Ports Hub USB 2.0 to 9 Pin Header Mainboard Panel Bracket?
edit: neverrrrrminnnnd...
Previous security update left me in horror because of Lilu.kext breaking and causing a kernel. (fixed after a few hours of cursing and sweating)
Any issue reports on a similar problem with this update?
Hiya,
First of all still happy with my current build, based on this guide.
Asus X99-A II / Intel Core i7-6850K 3.6GHz 15MB Smart Cache / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB / Sierra
However,
1) for some reason I can't get USB 3.0 to work.
Followed all the steps in the start of this guide, tried...
Update: A few hours ago I finished building my rig based on this @kgp build (THANKS!). Had a little trouble installing Sierra at first, but after a complete re-wipe of the SSD and a new install...I am now a proud owner of a 'Stormtrooper' Hack. (At least, that's how one of my friends described...
Ah great thanks!
Planning on building a new Hack for Video/MoGraph soon. Just ordered the parts, planning on using 2X 3TB WD Red's for a RAID 0 as project disk. 2 Evo 850 SSD's: one for system, one for scratch. However...I think a hardware RAID card might boost it better than software RAID.
Thanks for thinking along. I've been looking into that CPU, but 'unfortunately' After Effects (CC 2017) doesn't support hyper threading anymore, so no real gain there. The pure 'power' now has to derive from disk/scratch caching and GPU i.e. CUDA power.
I'm now leaning towards an i7-6850K and...
First of all, thanks for this MONSTER of a build. I'm most likely to use this as a primer for a motion graphics rig.
Probably cutting down on the CPU a bit.
Hi peeps,
For a while now I have been looking into options to replace my current Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R / Intel Xeon W3680 / GTX 970
setup, which has been serving me pretty decent since 2012 (swapped a GPU here and there, but apart from that not many upgrades overtime). A few months ago I had to...
Halleluja!
Have been waiting for this quite a while. Planning to upgrade my old Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Xeon - GTX 970 rig with a 1080(ti) at least for the time being.
There's one thing tho, I had to step back from Sierra to Yosemite again, since the MoBo wasn't all too happy with 10.12.x and...
For that reason I swapped my Sierra installed SSD back to my Yosemite SSD, I was hogging at 30mins for a 1:30 min clip. o_OCC2017 AE / AME under Yosemite minced it under 3 minutes (running an old X58 Gigabyte board with a Xeon)
