NVIDIA to launch "Maxwell" based GTX 960 graphics card this month

Hey guys,

I was having the same issue as danaurel89. I was finally able to boot to safe mode thanks to eebec boot args and get a driver loaded (343.01.02b.02) but it is not the latest one. Now if I try to update the driver I get the same error I was getting before.

This computer is not compatible with the NVIDIA Web Driver.

Any suggestions. The video looks good but I am not sure if this will cause issues. I am on 10.10.1 and would like to maybe go to 10.10.2 but I am not sure if I am going to right now.

Thanks,

If you are on 10.10.1 you need to download 343.02.01f01 version of the NV driver: WebDriver-343.02.01f01.pkg (http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/81212/en-us).

As far as I recall only 343.01.02f01 and 343.01.02f02 checks for system definition (you needed a macpro3,5,6 to pass the installation). Any other version does not.

If you want to update to 10.10.2 (and I think it's for the best as it's pretty safe), you will need the 343.02.02f01 (http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/81365/en-us). Be sure to follow those steps:
- you are on 10.10.1, download nv driver for 10.10.2
- update to 10.10.2
- reboot
- boot with nv_disable=1 and maybe -x
- install nv driver
- be sure to have nvda_drv=1 in kernel flags (Boot.plist or config.plist)
- reboot
- enjoy!

Thanks again eebec,

Your instructions worked liked a charm. Running 10.10.2 now with the latest Nvidia webdriver.
I changed sysdef to mac pro so I can install driver then I put it back to imac. Seems to work fine. Graphics card shows up as
Unknown 2989 MB in about this mac but it seems to work. I am guessing because of the system defs I am using.
Oh I also updated multibeast to 7.2.

Thanks again.

I don't think you needed to change your system definition as only two specific versions of nv drivers were checking if it was installed on a macpro or not. As a general matter, toying with the system def is not advised. Well as long as it worked, that's what matter.

Mine (MSI GTX 960) shows up as NVIDIA Graphics Device 2047 MB in System Report with iMac 14,1 / i5 4570S. So it's also a generic name. The difference could come from sysdef, card brand (what do you have? msi, asus, evga ?) or the fact I use clover, I don't know.

But as I stated in my previous posts, I got similar perf with Unigine on Windows, so it seems that it is fully supported! You should try to run the benchmark with the same settings and compare your score to mine. ;)

My benchmark is not as good as yours. I will have to run again with everything else closed to see if that makes a difference.

Hum strange. It looks like your mac is thinking that the HD4600 and your GTX is one and only one GPU whose GDRAM are shared.

Can you check if your GTX is recognised in the System Preferences > NVIDIA Driver Manager panel? Try then to disable your HD4600 in your motherboard bios. Remember to connect the DP/HDMI cable to the GTX connectors, not the MB ones, and set the initial display output to PCIe 1 slot (http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/...am-new-gigabyte-750-ti-2gb-graphics-card.html).

PS: as you're not running the unigine benchmark with the same settings (I used ultra/8xAA/1080/fullscreen and ultra/noAA/1080/fullscreen), you can't compare your score to mine. However yours should be higher because your screen resolution is lower.

Try to follow advise described in my previous post: check if connect to gtx and not mb output, select pci1 as initial display output (+ potentially disable hd4600).

Well that was unexpected: my MSI GTX 960 is up and recognized by OSX/NV Web Driver under the generic name of "NVIDIA Graphics Device 2047MB".

I'm using the first display port (the one near the HDMI output) at 1080p. So far so good...

OSX: 10.10.1
Nvidia Web Driver: 343.02.01f01 (latest)
Clover rev: r3128 (latest)
Clover Boot Argument: nvda_drv=1
