Hi Everybody,

Does anybody know of any affordable AMD cards that have admirable performance in Autodesk Maya 2015? I was looking at the Sapphire AMD Firepro W4100 as its affordable, also I've looked into the nvidia Quadro K620. Though I'm not sure either of these cards would work with OS X Yosemite.

I've tried Maya 2015 on my current Hack with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 and also our Windows 8 lab Computers with Quadro K2000 and Quadro 4000 & Xeon processors & an MBP retina 15 with iris pro. Maya doesn't perform too impressively on any of these systems when Instantiating multiple objects. and my GTX 760 sometimes introduces artefacts into renders.

To be fair this may just be poor optimisation in Maya, but thought I'd ask anyway :)

also Ive tried with Nvidia web drivers & Cuda slight performance increase but nothing too significant. I think Maya takes the most advantage of OpenCl so a card with good OpenCl performance would be best. like a 7970? but to be fair my GTX 760 is a great card and does everything else I ask of it :)

To paint the picture a little more I'm a Computer Science for Games student and I'm trying to run some small graphics simulations in Maya. currently I'm instantiating 4,096 cubes in Space and rotating them on all axis to generate a nice effect :) but the rendering and playback is painfully slow and unresponsive on my current setup.

Many Thanks! :D

(especially for reading all the junk I've just typed ;) )

I don't think you can put any AMD card into a hackintosh just because AMD don't make drivers for MAC.

The only card i can recommend is the Nvidia K5000 but that will set you back £1000 or so.

Jake

EDIT: you could put one or two GTX 980's into it if you wanted to, that should give you fast rendering speeds
