Hi all.

I have just joined this forum hoping to get advice and make new friends :)

i want to create a dual booting windows and OS X laptop.

i will be purchasing a hp pro book 4540s very soon. It will have the 2nd gen i5 processor, my first question is does it matter which generation processor I use?

second question is that I will follow a guide to install Yosemite, does everything work? Will I only need to replace the wifi?
Which wifi card do I need in order for it to work with both windows and OS X?

final question, if I want to upgrade the screen or add an ssd or a different hard drive should I do it before I hackintosh it?

thank you for reading and helping me out :)

Hi all.

i want to create a dual booting windows and OS X laptop.

Welcome to the forum!

i will be purchasing a hp pro book 4540s very soon. It will have the 2nd gen i5 processor, my first question is does it matter which generation processor I use?

I would suggest to search forum, of course i7 is faster than i5. Both are compatible. Read here http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/109274-probook-4540s-core-i5-vs-core-i7-wifi-card.html

second question is that I will follow a guide to install Yosemite, does everything work? Will I only need to replace the wifi?

Yes you need to replace wifi. Also don't expect the graphics card work too (of course on OS X only).

Which wifi card do I need in order for it to work with both windows and OS X?

Read this guide (http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-proboo...-install-yosemite-hp-laptops-clover-uefi.html) carefully, like very carefully, every sentence/word is sacred there, dont start if you don't understand it properly. It will asnwer your 99% questions/problems in future you may face.

final question, if I want to upgrade the screen or add an ssd or a different hard drive should I do it before I hackintosh it?

Depends on your n00bness level. I would prefer to do it later once I understand basics of OS X and installation/troubleshooting methods used here. Again search the forum(http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-proboo...540s-adding-second-hdd-optical-drive-bay.html) & http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/88212-4540s-lcd-screen-1080p-replacement.html, its quite helpful feature trust me.

Id install the SSD first, pointless installing everything to then repeat the process, the guide written for probooks is very easy to follow, the support better than you would expect from a product you paid for!

in the guide it lists compatible wifi cards, they will work in windows too.

Graphics will work in both OS X and windows, not sure I understand the comment above? (perhaps referring to certain discreet cards, certainly the intel HD graphics will work, read up on others if you intend to get a model that has multiple)

Id also upgrade the screen before the install, >>>>*however*<<< before doing that, download all the files needed, and fully understand which options you will need to select in order for your new screen to work, of course, this is an easy fix if you wanted to upgrade the screen after.

Wow thank you for all of the advice. I will definitely read the guide many times before the hackintosh procedure.

Regarding the the graohics card I thought the Intel graphics would work on

Just weighing ting up on what I want to do before the OS X install....another dumb question, will any ssd work with the 4540s?? I mean there are a few Samsung ones and a few more I have seen can I install any??

Also so I have a hackintosh desktop which a friend did for me. Can I get Yosemite from the App Store free or do I need to purchase it?

thank you all again for the help and support

thank you again

Intel graphics work.

It appears SgtRoswell wrote "the graphics card" when what was intended "the Radeon graphics device (if present)" or "the discrete graphics device (if present)".

Ohhhhhh thanks :D

Most any SSD with a SATA interface (not mSATA) should work. FWIW, I have a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD in my HP 4530s.

If your hackintosh has Mountain Lion or later, you should be able to get Yosemite for free from the App Store. Otherwise it is $19.99.

There are recommended WiFi cards in post #1 of the guide. You should read it.

From the http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-proboo...-install-yosemite-hp-laptops-clover-uefi.html:

  • WIFI ONLY: Atheros AR9280/9285, Broadcom 4322/43224 (better OS X feature support)
  • WIFI + BT: AR5B195 (not recommended), Broadcom 43225HMB/4352HMB (better OS X feature support)

I've got the (Qualcomm Atheros) AR5B195 in my 4530s. If you don't really need bluetooth, I might go with one of the others listed because the bluetooth on this card requires a firmware uploader kext for Yosemite that sometimes causes reboot on wake from sleep (Probably why its not recommended).

Good Luck
