Don't you need the Nvidia Web Driver to get the 900-series GPUs working at this point?

I'm pining for a 970 myself, but waiting for better compatibility/ease of use.

Thanks to cccip's suggestion ( http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/...e-graphics-drivers-10-10-1-343-01-02-a-6.html ) I turned of graphics enabler ("No") and now the 970 is recognized.

I installed using yosemite 10.10.1 with the G1 970 plugged in and nv_disable=1 ;
ran multibeast (user dsdt);
installed the Nvidia drivers;
changed org.chameleon.Boot.plist and added "nvda_drv=1" to the following string:
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>kext-dev-mode=1 nvda_drv=1</string>
And <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> to <string>No</string>

(TextEdit doesn't allow me to change the file, so I went to the terminal and did:
cd /extra
Sudo nano org.chameleon.Boot.plist)

Rebooted and now the video card is recognized. Except for the last part of the startup where I only see the loading bar. It works great!

During the Yosemite installation and during the first startup, the OS X video drivers make it stutter, it's a bit annoying and takes some patience, but it works.

I'm now working on getting my sound back. I installed the ALC 889, it recognizes when I plug in the jack, but no sound... I've repaired disk permissions but with no change...
So I'm back on the hunt :)

@justr : Sorry it wasn't clear in my post, but I installed the drivers when I booted using the USB stick, but on the fresh install. Did multibeast and then directly the Nvidia drivers

MEA CULPA: Sound works, I didn't realize that the "play feedback when volume is changed" is off... Feeling a bit :oops: BUT :headbang:

I've attached a copy of my Multibeast settings.

However, Multibeast now creates an org.chameleon.boot.plist optimized for new boards that have intel HD.

Make sure you set IGPEnabler=No and GraphicsEnabler=Yes.

If you have an existing Mavericks or even Snow Mountain running build you can even copy your DSDT.aml and org.chameleon.boot.plist to the /Extra folder of your unibeast installer. My install was a breeze!

Here's my org.chameleon.boot.plist :

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
	<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
        <string>Yes</string>
	<key>IGPEnabler</key>
	<string>No</string>
	<key>Kernel Flags</key>
	<string>kext-dev-mode=1</string>
	<key>Legacy Logo</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>Timeout</key>
	<string>2</string>
        <key>GenerateCStates</key>
        <string>Yes</string>
        <key>GeneratePStates</key>
        <string>Yes</string>
        <key>UseKernelCache</key>
        <string>Yes</string>
        <key>HDAEnabler</key>
        <string>Yes</string>
        <key>HDEFLayoutID</key>
        <string>01000000</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Hope it helps.

Thanks for this information. I followed your steps to the T, but I am only able to boot from my hard drive via safe mode (-x). Without this command, I see the Apple logo hanging with an empty gray bar underneath.

I attached a pic of what I see when I type - v.

Thanks for your help. After going thru every page, you seem very knowledgeable!

You either need a DSDT edited for power management or you need to use NullCPU (you can install it with MultiBeast).

NullCPU did the trick. Just gotta get hdmi sound and I'm golden. Thank you very much! :)

Still no luck with my installation of Yosemite. After post installation with MultiBeast (see attached screenshot and file), it gets up until the Apple screen, status bar shows it is loading OS, then my computer just turns off. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Specs:

Intel Core i7-950
Radeon HD 5770

I'd update to the latest firmware first: FH. And then get the latest DSDT.aml to match.

I've found MacPro 3,1 and 5,1 (I'm currently on the latter) to both work well. I've never had great success with 4,1... you might try changing that too.

Not sure this will fix the problem, but it's a wise move. That said, I think I had to boot into Windows to update the firmware at some point (maybe FF->FH; not sure). Gigabyte has info on it on their website.

Another suggestion is that when you get to the Chimera/Chameleon boot screen hit any key and then boot using verbose mode (I think you activate the menu to select that by pressing the down arrow on the keyboard... it's been a while). Then watch closely where the thing hangs/fails. It might give you/us some ideas...

Good luck!

(Also, a note: It's cheap, and worth it, to buy even a small HDD/SSD to use as a second system in the machine. The benefits outweigh the $50 it should cost: Test system for trying SW Updates, installing the latest MB/Bootloader/Kexts, second system that allows you to boot into it and then make changes to the other system, like deleting a kext, or the /extra folder, etc.)

Hey guys!

First off, I got say thank all the contributions in this post! It made my Yosemite update really smoothly, specially because of ElectronShaper's multibeast settings. So far, everything is going great!
Only situation I come across sometimes is the hackintosh freezing, monitor going black and I have to reset it for it to come alive again. But this is a very random situation...I can go days without it happening.

But also, this post made me realize how the Xeon X5650 is such a good deal. I have the i7-950 and although I have no complains, I'm really considering getting the X5650 for around 90€ used...because heck, it's an amazing deal. My only doubt is if I keep the i7 cooler or get an Cooler Master Hyper TX3 for the Xeon. Any thoughts on that matter?
I've never got around OC, so I don't know if I'm going to do it in the future...but even if I do, I'll probably going go soft on the Xeon anyways :p

Cumps

i7-930 with Yosemite, can't complain with this score. Just ordered the X5650 as well, to see how this does with X58a-ud3r Rev 1.0. Here are my 2 benchmarks.

I was having sleeping issues on my build and solved after installing AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement
AppleRTC Patch for CMOS Reset and AppleACPIPlatform Rollback.

I can't wake from keyboard either. Power button only.

@gulftown, you should indicate what version of BIOS is that DSDT. Someone on a different BIOS might have issues.

I installed all of these from MB and everything works perfect.
