Interesting finding. But why does changing the MLB and ROM from a real mac work? I used MLB and ROM from an air, and it worked on my imac system definition (everything but the mlb and rom remained generated by clover configurator). Shouldn't that have not worked if the MLB needs to be a certain length depending on the system definition?
This is a good point. Yes, we've heard everyone repeatedly say it's a bad idea. MLBs may be generated algorithmically according to hardware somehow, but iMessage doesn't seem to care whether they match the current hardware doing the executing.
This might be stating the obvious, but it looks like we only need to be concerned specifically with what makes the real MLBs valid. Maybe that involves reversing the algorithm, but maybe it doesn't. Should we try replacing pieces of previously working synthetic MLBs with pieces of real MLBs, one byte at a time? If so which ones? The 2nd to last digits being 1's and A's in real MLBs might be a trail to follow. Or just coincidence...
